NFL Yardage Pool Competition 2011

370/2 + 20 + 43 = 248

Jesus, 20 yards?

Thank god I got a chance to use Kenny Britt before he got hurt. I mean, I can always use that Welker guy some other week!

373 / 2 = 186.5 + 128 + 18 = 332.5

Week 1: 208/2, 121, 70 = 295

Week 3: 166/2, 79, 94 = 255
I suck at this.

Quick suggestion, how about we try using defensive yardage allowed next year as a new stat category.

That’s a really good idea, I like that. We’re early into the season, we can even incorporate that (late) into this year’s. What do you guys think?

Stafford
Mendenhall
Steve Smith

378 + 37 + 15 = 241

Blah

I’m down.

369/2 + 37 + 70 = 291.5

Have to decide the format. Subtract it from the offensive totals? Start with say 500 yards and subtract the yardage from that and add the difference? Do we apply a multiplier to normalize it some? Do we split it into passing yards allowed and rushing yards allowed?

Getting it in early:

Brady
Forte
Wallace
Tampa Bay

Splitting passing and rushing defense may be more interesting. Scoring them is an issue - we’d probably need some sort of multiplayer so they were roughly in the ballpark of other scores and not dominating the final score. Does anyone have a method other than subtracting the defensive yardage from a set amount (to get a positive result as a score)?

I’d say we should zero out defense at 400 yards allowed, assuming we keep it as one stat. If you allow 350 total yards you get positive 50 points, if you allow 450 yards you lose 50 points. That way a truly elite performance, holding an offense to 200 total yards is similarly scored to a huge rushing day.

If we split them apart we should probably have run defense zeroed out at 120 yards and pass defense at say 280. I chose all these numbers because I think the majority of outcomes should net positive points. Looking at the league averages only about 6 teams have averaged worse than those two benchmarks for the year.

If we stick with the argument for positive points we could also disregard negative points all together and give any score above 400 yards a zero instead of a negative score. I worry that defensive scores could overly dominate the rest of the offensive numbers if we aren’t careful.

Seems a bit arbitrary. Do you really want to lose the season title because the other guy’s defense game up 349 yards thanks to three kneel downs?

I agree with this. I’m not against the concept completely, but like Omni I wouldn’t want the defensive scoring variation to outweigh everything else.

I don’t understand your concern.

I misread your post, sorry. I guess I can live with that.
