NFL Yardage Pool competition

Gee, I thought you were talking about my two consecutive weeks of exactly 400 yds. When I started tallying my total for this week, (QB and RB were my first lookups), I thought I had a good chance for a third consecutive week at exactly 400 yds. Hines Ward was amjor disappointment.

Last week I said this:

This week I was rewarded with this:

189 + 102 + 79 = 370

Well, shit! I feel like next year we need to do something to normalize the disparity in QB scoring and RB/WR scoring. A bad QB week completely offsets all your scoring from the other positions.

Our average yards per week by position, through Week 9, not counting Omni’s picks (as he missed a week and it’s just easier to exclude him in this calculation):

QB: 271.6
RB: 75.1
WR: 66.9

That disparity should come down a bit as the weather gets worse and people run out of elite QBs. Still, multiplying RB/WR yardage by 2.5 or 3 (or dividing QB yardage by same) might not be a bad idea for next season.

Maybe. It’s not quite as simple as that, because the average isn’t the only thing that matters. That QBs puts up more yards makes them more important, but that they’re more consistent (it’s harder for us to pick a QB who’s going to stink up the joint) means their replacement level is higher, and that makes them less important. Maybe multiplying by 2 or even 1.5 would be better.

Well, not really. I’m in the middle of the pack vis-a-vis QB yardage. I’m in first place thanks to my wideout scoring.

That’s why I have a seperate listing for score by yardage type. You can think of it as 3 mini yardage competitions if you’d like. Buty yeah next year we can double the over values or something.

Brett Favre - 344
Ray Rice - 89
Wes Welker - 94

lieu - Week 10: 527

Why do they need to label him “Roy E. Williams” on stats pages? Are we going to think the Bengal’s injured safety put up 100 receiving yards for the Cowboys?

Standings are updated.

Week 10 scores:

  1. SenorBeef 686
  2. Lieu 527
  3. notfrommensa 377
  4. Varlos 370
  5. Omni 370
  6. RNATB 345
  7. Wilson 304

If you want someone involved in the Thursday night game, make the pick before kickoff.

Now I’ll let you guys know I’ve been tanking this season just to lull you into a false sense of security and let you make fun of me until I come back in the end and win it. It’s 600+ point weeks from here on out from me.

I think there’s an error in there somewhere. I was ~200 yards ahead of lieu after last week’s games and I gave up slightly under 200 yards to his this week, but I’m down by 80.

The rows and columns add up correctly though.

Anyway, on with the show!

Could it be that the lowest scoring week dropped changed or something? I don’t remember what the scores were before so I’m not sure what changed. If you look through and see some sort of error I can correct it. I didn’t do anything unusual this week, just added the new scores.

The spreadsheet doesn’t have the lowest scoring week dropped, as far as I can tell. Was it supposed to? The columns all added up normally.

There’s an “adjusted” column below the total column that drops the lowest week, and that’s our official score. Maybe you’re mixing that total up with the unadjusted total from previous weeks? I don’t have a backup spreadsheet every week so I can’t compare what has changed since then, but I didn’t do anything except add this week’s scores.

Yes, that’s exactly what I did - I didn’t scroll down all the way. :smack:

I wonder how secure RNATB’s and lieu’s margin over the field is. For instance, I’m in 3rd place, 231 points behind RNATB. That might not seem like much, since it can be realistically made up in just one week, but with seven weeks remaining it means I have to beat him by an *average *of 33 points per week (while also dodging some third party’s hot streak).

So if we were laying odds, I wonder what they’d look like. RNATB has been about 34 points above average per week, so even assuming he’s totally average the rest of the way, I’d have to be as far above the pack over the last 7 weeks as he has been the first 10 (and everyone else besides **lieu **has even further to go).

As a mitigating factor, as we run out of premium players, there should be more variance. That is, there will be more RBs/WRs who put up <20 yards in a given week, and more QBs throwing up 150s and so forth.

If I were betting I might actually go with lieu. He hasn’t had a really bad week, while I have, so the dropped week is helping me a great deal and hardly helping him at all. However, it’s likely that both of us will have at least one really bad week going forward, and mine will count against my score, while his will not.

On the other hand, I’ve also saved myself quite a few premium players, including Rodgers, Rivers, Randy Moss and Adrian Peterson.

Still need picks from notfrommensa.

New strategy, wait to the last minute.
