NHL 2015 Playoffs: The Thread

Abdelkader sounds like a penalty.

“Two minutes for being the abdelkader.”

“Detroit penalty to number 8, Justin Abdelkader, 2 minutes for abdelkading.”

Well that was a soul-crushing 5 minutes. I know it’s not over, but man a loss like that feels like it is for a while.

I hear ya’.

Nah, Lindback’s gone, and I wouldn’t switch him for Lehtonen. Kari seems to be one hell of a war horse in goal, his stats compare well to Howard’s, and I’ve seen him make some saves that humans shouldn’t be allowed to make.

GP W L OT SA GA GAA Saves SV% SO
Kari Lehtonen	65	34	17	10	1,875	181	2.94	1,694	.903	5
Jimmy Howard	51	21	19	11	1,482	133	2.66	1,349	.910	2

Now, if they could work out something and get them to be tandem goalies, I’d be in favor of that. But I think Dallas’ problems are more with the defensemen in front of the goalie (say -13 Trevor Daley), if anything.
And finally: Wow, I wasn’t listening to that Hawks/Predators game, but was watching the scoreboard on nhl.com at work. You look away for just a second, and the whole thing changes.

I wonder how many gamewinners Lehtonen let in vs. Howard. My view of Kari is that he makes amazing saves sometimes, and other times he SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. (That’s my usual chant when he’s in net.) And the times he makes amazing saves often come after he’s let in three bad goals. And the times he sucks often come just when he’s really really needed.

On the other hand lately I guess you could say that about Cory Crawford too. It’s not easy being a goalie. I wonder if Enroth is ever going to be as good as Darling has been during this series.

As for that Hawks/Preds mess last night, I think Forsberg was just trying to demonstrate that he should have been Rookie of the Year.

Forsberg makes me feel sick whenever I hear his name. The caps traded him for Martin Erat.

Well, that’s pretty much the number of losses (OT and Regulation) added together:

Lehtonen: 17 + 10 = 27 (out of 65 games)
Howard: 19 + 11 = 30 (out of 51 games)

It looks like that advantage goes to Lehtonen, to me.

Yeah, it’s tough being a goalie. It’s rare that they actually win a game for a team by keeping them in against an assault, and it’s far more noticeable when they allow easy goals.

It’d be nice for Enroth to perform at Darling levels, but he simply broke even in the 10 games he played for Dallas this season. That’s miles better than Lindback’s 2 and 8 performance, so I’ll take it for now. I’d bet we can make the playoffs with this pair.

It’s kind of hard to argue against that point of view this morning.

Well Howard really had two different seasons. Pre-injury and Post-injury.

You’re forgetting that Michael Latta came to the Caps in that trade, too. If the Caps had never traded Forsberg for Erat and Latta, the world would have been deprived of this amazing photo taken last night during Game 5.

Especially considering the previous 55 minutes. That was about the best I’ve seen Detroit play this year.

Phew! Wings didn’t blow it tonight, quite the opposite.

Rough night at Calgary. Canucks take 3-0 lead halfway through first period. Both of those local Canadian rivalry series could be forced 7 games, that makes things interesting.

Did the Flames give away free jerseys to everyone? The entire arena is wearing a Calgary jersey. I find it hard to believe that, what 18,000 people could all afford to buy a jersey, or even want to.

It shows you how isolated Calgary is. Try going to a game in the northeast and find only one jersey in the crowd. (I’m growing tired of the word “jersey” now. Maybe I should have interspersed “sweater” in there.)

What’s the story?
(PS: I saw one guy in a Vancouver Jersey.)

I’m in a much better mood tonight

Mrazec for Conn Smythe

I’m a Lightning fan, so it was a horrible game for me tonight. However, having said that, I can certainly agree that Mrazec was amazing…I have to hand it to the guy, he did pretty darn good.

You are kidding right? There are plenty of people wearing Flames jerseys around town on game day, no one had to give away jerseys to colour the Saddledome red. Anyone who can afford a playoff game ticket can afford a jersey, but most probably have one from prior playoff runs. I guess you wouldn’t know much about that.

Look. Every single person in the arena (except one) is wearing a Calgary Flames Sweater. This is not normal.

Goodbye Canucks. It was a slice.

Great comeback! Fun to watch,

Go Islanders!

One more win and they face their rivals: very nice Madison Square -vs- The Coliseum.
