So am I right he has also played the exact same amount of games as Gretzky? Impressive.
Of course Gretzky had 1,200 more assists in addition to those goals at this point.

Ovechkin also breaks his tie with Jagr for most game winners, and extends his 40-goal season record to 14.
As of me writing this the day after he tied Gretzky, Ovechkin has played in exactly one less game. 1486 vs 1487.
So tomorrow against the Islanders they will be tied in games played.
On the outside, Gretz might be smiling.
I mean he still holds damn near every other record, including total goals. I think he’s probably ok with one of his records being barely surpassed by another top 10 player. It’s also brought back up the conversation about him and how ludicrous all his other accomplishments are.
I don’t think there is much reason to doubt he’s smiling on the inside, too. He’s talked before how nice and genuinely happy Gordie was about him breaking Gordie’s records. I think Gordie sort of set the standard for how to handle moments like these and now Gretzky is paying it forward.
Totally fair points in last two posts.
Wayne gave a very gracious speech at center ice after the goal, and he was beaming from ear to ear.
Amazing hockey moment. Am I happy or sad it happened against my team? The crowd in Queens loved it. What an amazing thing to see in person! Wish I was there.
During the handshake, Sorokin (the goalie he scored on) was smiling as well when Ovie and he met on the ice.
I guess they had that whole shebang ready to go for the last few games.
From the “It doesn’t matter, but damn what a game” department:
The Stars go up 5-2 in the third against the Canucks, with one minute left. Pretty solid lead, huh?
Nope, Vancouver scores at 19:00, 19:30 and 19:53 of the third, then scores at 03:44 into overtime.
Never leave a hockey game, folks.
I couldn’t believe that game.
Seven seconds away from being officially eliminated for a play-off spot.
Probably lose the next game anyway to put the kibosh on yet another disappointing season.
Hey, never know. This could be the turnaround for them. We don’t really know what’s going to happen in the next minute of hockey, much less the next week. That’s what makes it exciting, after all!
Didn’t the Canucks do the same thing earlier this year? (maybe last year) - pull the goalie down two goals and end up winning.
Can’t recall.
If so - still not as mind-boggling as last night’s three goals in the last minute.
Sigh, might as well get ready to cheer on the Oils, then…
Yes, they did during last year’s playoffs against Nashville.
It was all for naught though, with Minnesota’s win last night the Canucks are officially eliminated from the playoffs.
Going to be interesting in Las Vegas as it’s Wrestlemania weekend the same weekend the NHL playoffs start.
The U.S. Original Six teams (DET, NYR, CHI, BOS) will all miss the playoffs for the first time in NHL history.
This sucks!
I’d think tonight’s three games should hopefully bring the west’s wild card spots into focus. Wild hosting the Ducks with 95 points, Blues hosting Utah with 94 points, and the Flames hosting Vegas with 92 points and a final game in hand. Blues have the tiebreaker over the Flames and the Wild have the tiebreaker over both of them.
