NHL 103 - October 2019 - Let's Do That Hockey!

Pre-season thread here.

Now that the preseason is closed out, it brings some good news for the Knights’ first games: Sharks’ Evander Kane suspended for 3 games for abuse of official

He’ll miss a game against Nashville in addition to the 2 against Las Vegas.

I was pleased with what I saw from the Knights during the pre-season. The one are where the Knights still need to improve is Power Play scoring. Our PP defense is okay and could use improvement, but I’d really like to see more points resulting from when we have the advantage.

I’ll call it now, Vancouver over Buffalo in seven for the Cup.

The Devils will be better than they were last year, which isn’t saying much.
The additions of Hughes, Gusev, Simmonds and Subban should make them more interesting, at least. I’m not sure how much Simmonds and Subban have left, but they should be at least decent. Goalkeeping is their biggest question mark.
Hopefully Taylor Hall will be healthy this season and we can enjoy his talent before he inevitably signs with Toronto next offseason…

Looks like another long season for the Red Wings.

Fortunately, my second choice team is the Sharks, who have a bit more potential this year. I’ll have to cheer for them until injuries knock out some old Wings veterans and some of the youngsters (Filip Zadina, Michael Rasmussen, Joe Veleno, Moritz Seider) get a shot. It won’t help the Wings at all, but at least they’ll be more fun.

they aren’t going to get much better so long as they’re obligated to keep playing Abdelkader, Helm, Ericsson, Nielsen, and DeKeyser thanks to their bloated contracts.

Dekeyser is still by far the best defensive D man. Helm still has good value as well.

Yup, thus my comment about injuries to those oldsters.

Being honest, they’re not going to be any better with the young guys this year. They all need a little more development. But it would be good to get them a few shifts at this level now so they know what they’re getting into. And maybe draft some more defensemen.

I was joking with someone a little bit ago; a few years ago I bought a Mrazek jersey, and he got traded. Then I bought a Zetterberg jersey, and he retired. I was asked “Please, please buy an Abdelkader jersey!”

Is the season over yet?

We like Petr.

Sounds like us Canes fans every July, back when Karmanos would give his “We like our team” speech.:smack:

Heh, the Stars look suspiciously like the previous season this preseason. It could be worse, but hopefully Monty has more success getting the whole crew to show up for three periods each game this year and the new additions contribute to the scoring.

24 seconds in and the Sens are up on the Leafs. I suspect that numerous people started reaching for the panic button, involuntarily.

heh, fans have no patience. it’s like Stevie Y’s first draft as GM. “We select Moritz Seider.”

Fans were like “can we have Ken Holland back?”

No panic buttons here. It’s a 60 minute game and an 82 game season. Toronto will lose some stinkers; this wasn’t one.
I didn’t get the game since I gave up cable, but followed the bouncing ball on TSN’s game page.
Matthews becomes the fourth player in NHL history to score in each of his first four career season openers, joining Dit Clapper, Dave Andreychuk and Sergei Fedorov.

Looking forward to seeing how these guys do in a tough, tough division. I got to see about half of that team come through the AHL down here in Cedar Park with the Texas Stars, so it’d be a blast to see them make a deep run.

Got to watch the Blues/Caps tonight, good game to start off the season. And it’s great to hear Doc Emmerich with the call, I really miss that in the off-season.

The Knights are still undefeated this season! Good job, guys!

Why on earth are the Flyers playing an afternoon game on a Friday?

Global series, they’re in Prague.

Dang. It took a whole 69 seconds for the Bruins to get their first goal.
Lazy slackers.

Because someday, hopefully someday soon, the NHL will morph into the WHL, with 82 teams in 47 countries. The season will last a little more than 10 months if all playoffs go the full seven games. Cross-promoting with death metal bands will more than double average game attendance. Players from Portugal, while few in number, will invariably dominate. The Stanley Cup Final gets more viewers than Beyoncé’s Clone’s latest “music” video. Wyld Stallyns music brings peace and harmony to the Earth. The end.
