NHL: December 2010

The Stars also had two very impressive wins this week. They won the second game of a back to back in Detroit with less than 24 hours rest, then won at home easily over Montreal. Lehtonen needs to stay healthy though as Rayfcroft is inconsistent.

I hope the Stars can address their ownership situation and not have to trade away Richards.

Apropos of nothing, but the more I look at Gary Bettman, the more I think of the Count.

Star Ledger reporting that the Devils have fired MacLean and that Lemaire has taken back over on an interim basis.

Happy Holidays, Devils fans. I guess.

Not for long! Ho ho ho!
But Detroit loses Datsyuk for a while with a broken wrist, dammit.

It’s difficult to believe that’s the same team you and I watched lay an egg in Toronto. They looked like they couldn’t have acheived first place in the AHL.

Damn 10 man brawl at the Bruins - Thrashers game. Also there was a fight 2 seconds into the game.

I am shocked – shocked – to hear the Lucic sucker punched somebody while the linesmen were trying to break it up.

Sweet Beavis, I was ready to puke during the Pens/Caps game tonight. I can’t remember a game that tense in a long time – SEVEN SHOTS ON THE SHOOTOUT??? Argh!!! (Thank god for Pascal Dupuis!)

Next week’s 24/7 should be really interesting.

Awful, awful news out of New Mexico, as the 18-year-old daughter of former Canadiens captain Pierre Turgeon was killed in a car accident early Thursday morning. Her pickup truck failed to stop at an intersection and crashed into a semi in dense fog. Her passenger suffered life-threatening injuries; the semi driver was uninjured.

Right now looks like temperatures in the 40s and a chance of rain for the Winter Classic. I can’t imagine the game would be played in the rain, would it?

Well, rain or not – my cousins have tickets for the game, and I am absolutely green.

Sens finally beat Pittsburgh but lose Jason Spezza in the bargain. For an offensively struggling team this could be the death blow.

They sucked pretty badly with him. I think it’s a case of shooting a corpse.

I don’t mean to jump on the Spezza pile-on, but when your first line centre has 20 points in 32 games, you can’t possibly be giving up THAT much offense. Not that they have a lot of good forwards to take up the minutes, but it’s hard to imagine that shifting the minutes down to Chris Kelly and Peter Regin will make that much of a difference.

It’s just a shame it didn’t happen to Sergei Gonchar, who is now -19, which I would think would be almost mathemtically impossible on a team where nobody else is worse than -10. Plus-minus isn’t a great statistic but you have to admit that a guy whose plus-minus is nine worse than anyone else on his own team is doing something wrong. How many teams have a guy who’s nine worse than any teammate?

None. No other team has anyone like Gonchar. There are players with worse plus-minuses, but they’re all Devils. They all have bad plus-minus ratings because they’re all on an atrocious team. Gonchar is uniquely horrible within his own team.

The Senators are an okay team when Sergei Gonchar isn’t on the ice. Once he is, they’re as bad as the Islanders. I’m sure that can’t all be Sergei’s fault, but a lot of it is.

Habs acquire James Wisniewski from the Islanders for a second-round pick in 2011, and a conditional fifth round pick in 2012.

Not a bad trade. Wisniewski’s cap hit is 3.25 million, and he’s a UFA at the end of the year.

Red Wings climbed up to be tied for the league lead in points, with a game in hand. And during a fairly weak stretch of play even.

And Grats to Ozzie, 400 wins is still damn impressive, but Nobody is under any illusion that it wasn’t mostly a product of being on very talented teams.

Injuries are starting to pile up again. :frowning:

Yeah, but he looked damned impressive last night. Ozzie was the only thing that kept his very talented team from being spanked hard. I’ll admit the first two goals were weak, but everything after? Different story. Forty-six saves on the night for the man who definitely earned win #400.

Got nervous after Holmstrom went down last night and didn’t return for most of the second. The good news (well better than last year at any rate) is that these are 4-6 week injuries and not “maybe he’ll be back for the playoffs” injuries. Then there’s Modano. Maybe he’ll be back for the playoffs.

Bruins and Lightning tied 1-1. Bruins scored 28 seconds in. Only 8 minutes in. This is going to be a good one.

Darryl Sutter has stepped down as GM of the Flames. Former Lightning GM Jay Feaster will take over as Acting GM.

Canes beat the Leafs 4-3. Skinner pots another goal.

Do you think he’ll catch Sawchuk for the all-time Wings lead? Sawchuk has 352 Detroit wins, Ozzie currently is at 316. It looks like he’ll need at least another year, depending on how much playing time he gets.
