Wings home streak at 23 and counting now.
Whistles nonchalantly Oh Is that kind of thing going on? I never noticed.
[sub] I will not be the jinx, I will not be the jinx[/sub]
Why worry about the jinx? The record belongs to the Wings. Anything else is just plain old fun. When Pavs scored with five seconds left to beat Nashville…
Especially since the rumor before the game was that the Sharks wanted the streak to be intact so they could be the ones to end it. That went well for them.
I’m just gonna enjoy watching this run while it goes, and cheer just as hard when it ends.
Record with a big ol’ asterisk by it. The Bruins and Flyers didn’t have the luxury of OT when they went on their streaks.
Yeah, and when Terry Sawchuck played goal, he was using phone books and sears catalogs in his pads. Nobody seems to be looking for an asterisk on that record.
Actually the Bruins had the luxury of a 10 minute overtime.
Holy shit, what the hell happened? And Johnson better start pulling things together – his contract is up for renewal.
All too true, tho I wonder what the longest loss-less home ice streak is…
35 games I think. It was the Flyers, sometime in the early1980s, if memory serves they went 25-0-10.
Thursday Detroit v Vancouver should be one of the best games of the season.
The Devils clawed their way to fourth in the East last night, which is great, but since they’re not going to catch the Rangers this is as high as they can get and, I’ve got to say, I don’t like that they’re on a collision course with the Flyers in the first round as even though Philly is floundering they have the scoring depth to handle the Devils.
I’d much rather NJ finish 6th and catch the winner of the SE, but since that requires them to cool off a bit and/or two division rivals to get their acts together, I guess the next best result is that the Penguins overtake the Flyers (a distinct possibility) and draw the Devils in a 4-5 match up as I feel the Devils could win that series.
Regardless, I just wanted to throw out an “I told you so” for all those who at the beginning of the season prognosticated that the Devils would be finishing ~14th in the East.
In honor of the upcoming trade deadline and the media and fan frenzy it always seems to inspire, here’s an article on how you too can be an NHL Twitter Insider by following the simple E.K.L.U.N.D. system.
Ooh, ooh, let me try:
We’ve already hashed out our opinions on Chris Pronger’s place in hockey, and I’m not really interested in doing it again, but here is a non-updatethat’s pretty sad. It sounds really tough on his wife and kids.
No real change in his condition, doesn’t sound like there are many “good days”, add in the struggles of depression and trying to consider the possibility that he’s going to be like this for a long time to come…
I really don’t wish this on anyone.
Fuck, that’s just so wrong. I’m a Pens fan (who loathes the Flyers) and reading that made my stomach turn. How anyone can just dismiss this as “part of the game” is beyond me.
Man this team is snakebit. Other teams hit the posts, the puck bounces four times and goes in. Habs hit the post, the puck bounces four times and provides an opportunity for a breakaway for the opponent :smack:
Such an exhausting and frustrating season to watch.
Go Stars!!!
Sorry mnemosyne.
Marc-Andre Fleury gets his 21rst career shut-out! He’s now tied with Tom Barrasso for the most shut-out wins for Pens goalies. (And I hope he beats him soon. Barrasso is a major douche.)
We’ve also got James Neal for another 6 years!
Here’s why I hate points for overtime losses.
As of now, Los Angeles is eighth. Calgary is ninth. So if the season ended this way LA would make the playoffs and Calgary would go home.
Both teams have played 60 games. Calgary has won 28; they’re 28-32. LA has won 27; they’re 27-33. But because of overtime losses, LA has one more point.
So the team with more wins and fewer losses is, somehow, ranked behind.
I hate that.
According to the coach, several Habs are battling the flu - that’s why Plekanec didn’t play last night, but other players are also sick. Not an excuse, but it does explain some of last night’s lethargy.
Is it mean to hope that some of the Stars got it? Not all of them - I like some of the players and have no opinion on the rest of them - but the Ribeiro lovefest on RDS made me loathe the ugly mofo, I already hate Michael Ryder (Ruins) and Adam Pardy needs to vomit a little because I didn’t like some of his antics and the name “Pardy” apparently is one of the most irritating sounds to hear, ever (IMHO). So, just those three can get the flu to make me feel better about having to sit through that crapfest of a game last night. Also, to piss off my friends from Dallas.
Yes, I’m grumpy today - last night’s game, having to deal with a crappy medical clinic, and my great-aunt died. Pardy having the runs would make up for it, IMHO. :smack:
The loser point needs to go, Rick Jay, I agree. We also need officials that care to apply the rules, disciplinarians that actually understand what discipline means (it doesn’t mean “only punish people from teams I don’t like”), teams that make money in locations that make sense, and to get rid of the shootout gimmick. The NHL has a long way to go before perfecting this sport.
