Letting Laraque take the rest of the season off seems to have woken up a few of the other players. D’Agostini fighting (and getting his ass kicked) in last night’s 3-1 win against the Devils, and the whole team kicked butt 6-0 against the Rangers. Third shutout for Halak this year. Let’s hope they keep playing like this!
Carolina’s now out of the league basement with a 5-1 pasting of the Bruins. Thomas got yanked again. Boston has now dropped out of a playoff spot. Edmonton now has the worst record in the league.
Habs have a chance Tuesday against Florida. to put some space between them and Boston, and maybe pull ahead of both the Rangers and Philadelphia into 6th.
And they utterly fail to pull this off, going 0-fer on the Florida quickie. Be nice if they could, you know, score a goal every once in a while when Price is in net.
Urrgh seriously. Niittymaki could have gone home to watch TV and the Habs still wouldn’t have scored anything with the offence they had tonight. And the D was practically non-existent, they pretty much hang their goaltender out to dry, and then wonder why he’s not getting any wins? They were terrible! The next few games on the schedule are going to be pretty tough going into the Olympic break, too.
I’m currently watching the Moose Jaw Warriors play the Saskatoon Blades (?) and it is a much more interesting game than either of the Canadiens games the past two night! I’m cheering for the Moose Jaws… they were down 3-0, and have just tied it! And they have this awesome logo on their jerseys.
And the Canes paste the Rangers 5-1 tonight. Capt’n Staal keeps his scoring streak alive, with 7 goals in 4 games.
Big Western Conference showdown tonight at the Tank. It’s sold out (as usual), but I’ll be watching in glorious hi-def.
(I’m just glad to be able to watch Sharks games again.)
No giving up short-handed goals this time, OK guys?
Canes get a PPG, a shortie, an empty netter, and an even strength goal, Cam Ward stops 26 of 27 for yet another win.
EIGHT!
Weeee…!
Ottawa is on one heck of a roll here, aren’t they? The defense is suffocating right now. The forecheck is probably Ottawa’s biggest weapon right now. If the opposition doesn’t have an easy clear we’re all over them and forcing turnovers.
Never saw this winning streak coming. I’m thrilled, but if you’d asked me two weeks ago I would have never imagined they’d play even .500 hockey, much less win eight in a row.
They just dominated Pittsburgh. It was not a lucky win; the Sens were a much better team. The forechecking was tight and they recovered very quickly from defensive lapses.
Edmonton and Calgary go into Saturday’s game on losing streaks of 11 and 9 games respectively. I wonder if that’s a record for two teams. At any rate, someone has to win. Meanwhile the Oilers are past driving me to drink and are now driving me to shoot heroin.
anyone know of a website that has the NHL standings with the inclusion of 3point regulation wins?
So 3point reg. win
2 point OT/SO win
1 point OT/SO loss
0 point reg. loss
Too bad I couldn’t make that game. Wow! Are you going to try to make it to the RBC for the Blackhawks game? We are going to wait and see how the weather looks. Have 4x4 and tickets…I’m hoping we can go.
(Raleigh is having a major snowstorm right this minute! Up to a foot predicted for this area by midnight Saturday night. Yowza!)
I’m working in the morning, so I’ll be closer to the Caslte than to home. Wanna tailgate?
I wanna tailgate!
Today is Hockey Day in Canada, which means that all 6 Canadian teams are playing in back-to-back-to-back games (more or less…there’s a break between the matinée and first evening game). Montreal at Ottawa, followed by Vancouver at Toronto and then Edmonton at Calgary. Since there’s currently also a QMJHL game on TV, I just might manage to watch enough hockey today to get sick of it. Doubt it, though!
Mnemosyne, what’s the skinny on Price? I only caught the RDS report very briefly, but did Price break his stick angrily at practice after somebody drew a happy face on it? Did he get into it with Markov?
From what I can tell, he showed up with the smilie face on his stick. At some point during practice, something annoyed him enough that he broke his stick and threw it onto the bench.
At the end of practice, he gave Markov a great big bear hug (which apparently resulted in Markov looking rather embarrassed), and then Price immediately looked at the media seats and grinned at them. The media has been fairly rabid about a rumour that Markov chewed out Price last week, while the whole team is saying that nothing happened.
So…I don’t think there’s anything really newsworthy going on, but the media is eating up the whole “goalie controversy” and taking anything at all and trying to make it seem like more than it is. The media kind of has it in for Price, IMHO.
Ah…tempest in a teapot, then. How dare a 22 year old kid act like a 22 year old kid!
Oh fuck, Cammalleri’s injury is nauseating. There is no way that didn’t seriously fuck up his knee
2 impressive wins for the Dallas Stars. It looks like they’re going with Auld as their #1 goalie and I agree. Anyone want Marty Turco?
