After starting the season on a lengthy suspension, Tom Wilson is on track for a career high in goals and a career low in penalty minutes. Too soon to judge if he has adjusted his game or if it is a fluke.
Toronto wearing their green and white St. Pat’s uniforms tonight at home against Philly. Sweet!
Toronto St. Patricks
1919–1927 - Official name before switching to Leafs.
So, Brian Elliot knocks the net off on his own, with zero external interference just as Auston Matthews scores.
The call, upon review, is no goal. OK, but I think there should have been a delay of game penalty to Elliot. So a goalie can just dislodge the net when things get scrambly with no repercussions?
That’s kinda bullshit.
Yeah, Elliot definitely shoulda got a delay of game. Hope that was just a brutal slip-up, and doesn’t set any goofy precedents.
It’s typical Flyers. That’s the only way they can win.
And they didn’t.
Karma.
Now somebody has to try it again to see.
I would just like to wish everyone a Happy Flyers 16K Day!!!
Well then - just saw Dallas’s Khudobin throw the net off its pegs in a fit of pique at the refs for not calling the play dead because of the goalie’s broken skate. For those kind of things, you put your big boy pants on and tough it out, even if you can’t skate anymore (like I’ve seen other players do) until the play comes to a natural stop.
No delay of game call.:dubious:
And then only yesterday the same goalie threw his stick, which the NHL later deemed an accident.
Um, nah, it was accidentally on purpose. And even it had been an honest accident, the goalie is still responsible for keeping hold of his stick: automatic infraction.
A shame that Jamie Benn (from my hometown Victoria yay!!!) has always been one of the most underrated players in the NHL. (Reminding me of a Joe Sakic or Ron Francis.) I especially like how he’s always so Joe Cool after a goal - total pokerface - total whatevs.
Class.
Great team leader.
Heh - meanwhile, Ben Bishop, the other Stars goalie - wow - in the month of March has an absolutely sick 0.94 GA and .966 SV%. (7-1-0). (oh and 3 shutouts)
(And for the season, almost as ridiculous - 13-6-0 with a 1.75 GA and .941 SV%)
Teams don’t want to face that in the play-offs.
On fi-yaaaaaah! as Diamond Dave would say.
My son recently attend an Avalanche game. The crowd yelled “the flag is still there” along with the anthem. Any ideas why?
Caps fans yell “red” and Oh”, Dallas fans yell “stars”. I always hope teenage girls will yell “twilight”. Any other local traditions?
At Flames’ games the crowd yells out C (Oh say can you see) and “The rocket’s RED glare”.
They just murmer along politely to the Canadian anthem.
Shhhhh, he’s had a problem finishing games. You’ll jinx us!
But Khudobin, tantrums or not, has been a damn good backup.
The Calgary Flames are a Canadian team. What other NHL team is called the Flames?
Winnipeg Jets fans yell “TRUE NORTH!” during “true north, strong and free” in the Canadian anthem, a nod to True North Sports + Entertainment, Manitoba’s major sports and entertainment company, which owns and operates Bell MTS Place, the Jets, the Manitoba Moose (AHL), the Bell MTS Iceplex, and the Burton Cummings Theatre (“The Burt”).
Would love to see something at the Burt. (if I had a prominent moustache, that is.)
Every MLB game I’ve attended in Canada, they play both the US and Canadian anthems (the first to acknowledge the visitors). They do the same thing in the US when the Jays (and the late lamented Expos) visit. So I would have expected that Flames home games would’ve included the playing of the Star Spangled Banner when teams like the Wings come to town. And since the majority of NHL teams are based in the United States that means most Calgary games will include the US anthem,
Or unlike in baseball is this not traditional in hockey?
Hey, serious question: Were we Dallas fans the first to deface the national anthem?
I don’t have any factual info on why Colorado chants what it does. A search reveals a lot of theories, but nothing concrete. Maybe, like me, they like the alternate logo using the Colorado flag’s device?
In hockey, no idea. In sports, almost surely not. I’m pretty positive that Baltimore Orioles fans were shouting out the O in Oh say does… while the Stars were still playing in Minnesota.
No. You’re correct. My mistake. I just couldn’t understand.
Carry on.
ETA: I didn’t know of the tradition in Calgary. Normally we Canadians just remain respectful of national anthems in general.
