Not sure if it matters much, but although Pouliot’s French-Canadian, he’s not a Quebecois. He’s close though; he’s from Alfred, Ontario, a small town on (the former) Highway 17 between Ottawa and the Quebec border.
So apparently Ottawa starting goaltender Pascal Leclaire has broken his jaw in a game he didn’t even appear in. For fuck’s sake, I knew that he was injury prone, but this is ridiculous.
A knee-on-knee hit like that can easily result in a torn ACL, which can take 6-10 months to recover from. The NHL needs to come down hard on those.
Yeah, we knew that, and no, it doesn’t really matter other than giving a small amount of pride that the Canadiens have at least some French-Canadian players. It’s just fun to cheer for the “local” guy, for some people. She’d rather have an ugly anglo/allophone who can score than a cute francophone who can’t on the team, but if there’s a chance of getting a cute francophone who can score…well, that’s just a bonus, right?
Wow, that sucks! Poor guy!
But it didn’t result in a torn ACL, just an MCL sprain. But still, that’s not really the point…I dislike Laraque anyways and wouldn’t mind if he never came back, and it was a pretty dirty hit, except that I think it’s bizarre to give 5 games for this, and 2 for that hit I mentioned…it just seems so arbitrary and inconsistent. Which is what a lot of people are complaining about, I think. Come down on hits like that, sure, but do it the same way every time.
Toronto got 61 shots, and they still, somehow, lost.
I’m beginning to wonder if the Leafs are really a hockey team, or some sort of performance art troupe, a kind of travelling mass Andy Kaufman-style thing where they’re trying to enrage the audience.
I wonder if any Leaf fans are pining for the Ballard days. At least you knew where the buck stopped with him.
Another win for our boys tonight, beating our former backup Mathieu Garon in a 5-3 victory over Columbus.
Nash crunches Moen from behind, gets no penalty. Moen gets up, takes a poke at Nash, who ducks out of the way, and Moen gets two for roughing.
Price was awesome tonight!
Price kept them in the game through the first, once again! He earned that first star! But midway through the second, the Habs finally showed up and man, were they hungry! They just dominated from that point on!
And I agree, the refs sucked tonight. They also missed the slash on AK46 (do we need to specify which AK anymore?), and the stick to Pyatt’s face. No consistency in the refereeing at all.
Free wings at La Cage aux Sports tonight!
The Leafs are announcing that Toskala’s going to miss a week or so with a groin injury. I didn’t catch the last game against the Islanders, but a guy at work was saying that it looks like after the Isles blitzed him for three goals in a little over three minutes in the second, Toskala skated over to Wilson and basically said “Frig it, I’m done for tonight.” Was it apparant that Toskala really did tweak something, or does anybody else think he was just pulling a chute?
Now Dan Cleary is out for at least a month. The Wings are going to have to muddle their way through with rookies and extra playing time . It will develop players faster., if they can hold on and make the playoffs.
psstt…it’s Decembernow…*

Fuckin christ. Ericsson is out now too. Its a damn good thing the Wings built up the ‘overripe’ farm system, those guys are now the core of the team. And they are filling in with cast offs who couldn’t sign this year. Soon they’ll have to sign Gordie again, just to fill out 4 lines.
