See, there’s the difference between the US markets and the Canadian ones. Up here, going to a hockey game is a Saturday night! How long is the drive out to Glendale anyways? Given as Habs fans regularly drive the 2.5 hours to Kanata for games against the Sens, or even the 5+ hours to New York to turn games against the Isles into home-crowd games, I think your comment is rather funny. I hate 1 pm games and I’m glad the Habs pretty much never play them.
It is an annoying drive. Thankfully, the speed cameras are no longer allowed. It is a long drive through endless stretches of suburbia, finally ending up close to the California border. At least an hour drive from Central Avenue in Phoenix, and I live in central Phoenix. I think it is a more interesting drive if you’re going **into ** the city rather than **out **of it.
A very nice goal by Ryan Strome, of the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs.
In Carolina, hockey is most of the day Saturday. People start tailgating 8 hours before faceoff(13 hours if they are doing a pig).
One?
Close. From the Penguins radio show:
Through last weekend, the average number of shots taken during a power-play chance in the NHL this season was 1.42. Even though all chances are not the same (some last 15 seconds, some can last five minutes), by looking at totals for every team we eliminated that as a mitigating factor.
Only one team (SJ) was averaging two shots per PP chance. And the
league’s best power plays were in the bottom five as far as shots per chance; a lot of
the worst PP teams were among those getting the most shots. So it kind of says that
number of shots means nothing by itself – it’s more like quality of the chance that
counts.
Happy Birthday to Marc-Andre Fleury!!! (Flower Power!)
Sidney Crosby hits 200, and then 201 for a hat trick. I am loving this.
(BTW, will anyone be watching HBO’s 24/7 Winter Classic version? It starts December 15th, or 16th, I believe. I saw the preview, and it looks like it’s gonna be great)
This sounds terrible until you realize that over the course of a 60-minute game, 1.42 shots every 2 minutes works out to 42.6 shots in a game(i.e. offensive domination).
Atlanta 3 Boston 0 at the end of the first period. Wow.
Canes lose 3-2in a shootout. Ward kept us in the game, and Cole and Staal had pretty goals.
Despicable. Someone broke into Pat Burns’ wife’s car and stolememorabilia intended for auction to raise money for the new arena in Stanstead, on the day of his funeral, too. Police are saying the thieves can return the items, no questions asked.
That’s incredibly fucked up.
