Here’s a thread to discuss the NHL action for this month.
I’m disgusted by the actions of Flyer’s goalie Ray Emery. I know many people like goalie fights, but Capitals goalie Braden Holtby didn’t seem to want any part of Emery last night. Emery should get at least a 5 game suspension for this nonsense.
The Flyers also got their butts kicked in the game, losing 7-0
I also agree that the Stars play by play team is excellent, I believe they’re the only group that does both radio and TV. Since they’re broadcasting radio, they don’t go off on dumb tangents like many of the the TV only broadcasters.
Absolutely disgusting. I’m a Caps fan, but I don’t think I’m being biased here… Holtby made it clear he didn’t want to fight (Emery admitted as much in a post-game interview), and didn’t get most of his goalie gear off. Emery still jumped him and repeatedly hit him in the back of the head. It was pure, unadulterated goonery. I’m seeing even most Flyers fans agree. But I have read a few “well that’s just hockey” comments, but that’s bullshit. Even in the “good old days” of more violent hockey, that sort of shit wouldn’t have stood. I think some people have watched Slap Shot one too many times and have come to believe that hockey used to actually be like that.
The referee (or, linesmen, I guess?) also needs disciplined for not stepping in.
Naturally, Emery is starting in goal tonight. He should be suspended for at least 5 games, and I wouldn’t be mad if it was 10. Obviously, the Flyers want him to let in another 7 goals tonight. I wish Kovalchuck was still with the Devils to humiliate Emery tonight.
Emery’s an asshole. He was an asshole when he played in Ottawa, and he’s still an asshole.
He used to be late for practices, missed flights, and even (allegedly) staged an accident on the way to the airport when he knew he’d be late for a flight so he’d have an excuse.
Jeff Zatkoff got his first NHL win tonight – and it was a shut out too! Pretty sweet. It also looked to me like there were more Pens fans in attendance there than Blue Jackets fans.
I like a good goalie fight, but only when both parties are willing (much like any hockey fight). What Emery did was assault – why the fucking isn’t he being suspended? Stay classy, Flyers!
(It was good to see them get beaten 7-0, even if it was by the Caps)
At what point do the Oilers give up on the current make up of the team? All those number one picks and they still can’t play consistent hockey. Or rather they do, it is just consistently bad.
A little late but regarding the goalie fight… Apparently giving up four goals and then fighting an unwilling participant earns you one of the stars of the game in Philadelphia.
