NHL Playoffs

The Canes owned the first & third. Boston owned the second big time.

Really? On TV it looked like a pretty consistent game. Maybe there was a lull when I went to fix a sandwich?

Puck has dropped in the Verizon Center. Let’s go CAPS!

Going to be tough. It’s a back to back game.

Caps totally blew the 2-0 series lead.

Thank you for the update.

The locals are aware of this fact.

The Bruins put out their best effort in the second.

I don’t know what the heck happened to the Ducks, but game 5 is practically broken. A little over halfway through the second period and Detroit has outshot Anaheim 21 to 5 and leads 2-0.

I can’t watch this game. VS. was showing Indy freaking TIME TRIALS.

They just had a live look-in. 2-1 14:00 to go. And they cut out just as Detroit was going to goal. Grrrr.

Freakin’ hockey teases. I hate blackout restrictions.

That looked good finally. The Wings finally just dominated a game, even though it was way nervous for way too long.

Dominated indeed. That game wasn’t even as close as the 4-1 final score showed. Hiller looked good, but he got a handful of goalposts that went his way too. On the Detroit side, Ozzie was solid. The only goal against him had huge traffic.

Anaheim is going to have to find something before Tuesday. They looked beaten from the drop of the puck. They were outshot 38-17. Detroit was making passes easily and getting really quality scoring chances against Hiller. Offensively, Osgood was rarely challenged.

Detroit merely has to repeat what they did tonight to wrap the series up. They had great energy. Passes were on target. Only thing they could do better is get a couple of those shots off the iron and into the net.

What is going on here during the semis? Is it just me, or am I seeing teams with the lead just forgetting about offense? It seems like almost everybody (Caps and Ducks specifically) is not coming out to play. The games are great but these guys are heavily depending upon their goalies to save the day. I mean, Varmalov and Hiller are working pretty hard and getting saves, but they can only take so many shots before one eventually goes through.

The ‘Canes are showing this to be a dangerous trend for their series as well. Ward’s good, but c’mon. Give the man a break.
Or is this just part of the conspiracy that the ad agencies are just selling airtime and make the series all go to seven games?

To be fair, Anaheim only had a 2-1 series lead. It’s not as if they lost much. Plus they’d been relying upon Hiller all the way through round 1 and the first three games of the semis. You’re certainly right about Anaheim not showing up to play. Detroit flat out crushed them. That was not the game I expected to see today.

Shots against can be misleading as well. I’ve seen teams put 50 shots on a goalie that were all low chance blue line shots with no traffic and nobody to stuff the rebounds. Washington is going to rely upon their goalie by design. They aren’t a team that wants to win a game 2-1 or 1-0. Carolina has no excuse. They let Boston way off the mat by giving them a 4-0 victory.

*That *was the worst call I have seen in this series. Caps player Poti gets called for a 2 min penalty tied at the end of the third with 2.04 to go? And the *home team *gets the power play?

Grrrrr.

At least they made it to overtime.

See ya in 20 minutes.

He slashed the player’s stick out of his hands. The ref can’t take how much time is left on the clock into account.

Bet your happy now Uncle.

I am indifferent as to who wins this series, but YAY for a game seven, because I’m loving the hockey in the Pens-Caps series!

Thanks for joining us Mr. Bettman.

For my initial response: C-A-P-S!!! CAPS!!! CAPS!!! CAPS!!!

I lovelovelove me some overtime. Lookin’ forward to Game 7 in the Phone Booth!

For the record, I am not alone in my opinion about the slash. All three home announcers said it was a bogus call.
::ahem::
Now, VAN/CHI go into the third tied at 3!!! Could this be an omen for the Canucks?

and now it looks like Khabibulin gets his spot on the highlight reel with the save at the end of the 2nd.

Let’s see if Salo can get a goal, eh?

Matt sundin scores!!!

Is anybody else watching the third in VAN/CHI???

WOW!!!
