NHL Playoffs

He is a goalie, stats don’t matter. If he never let in a goal, we would win every game. At worst tie. It is his fault.

Thanks!

Conversation up here is turning towards Team Canada for the Vancouver Olympics…we have a lot of goalies to choose from, but the names Osgood, Brodeur and Luongo are coming up a lot, with Fleury and Ward not really being discounted yet. It should be interesting to see how things play out for that.

A career .906 save percentage is actually pretty awful.

Yeah, just terrible. Not even close to HOF worthy eh.

Very good game from the Pens, great game for both goalies, another awful one from the refs.

Let’em know how you feel!

Yep, 24th all time is just awful.

I have to say Detroit made themselves look bad. The stat that clinches it for me (if I remember it right) is from the first period: four odd man rushes for Detroit and three shots total for the period. Watching the second and third periods backed it up. Detroit just didn’t move their feet well in the Pens zone. When Detroit is at their best, they’re moving constantly. Holmstrom or another are bobbing and weaving in front of the net and the other players in the zone are skating with the puck, trying to get open, or trying to find a clear lane to make a play. That forces the defensemen to open up the net a bit more and makes the goalie move as well. Last night shots were coming from the blue line with two Detroit players and two Pittsburgh players in net. With that kind of a crowd the puck won’t even reach the goalie much less the back of the net. Decision making wasn’t good either. Passing instead of shooting. Shooting instead of passing. Pinching in instead of backchecking. Simply put, Detroit had an off night.

That said, Pittsburgh is not the kind of team you can have an off night against. They were given a lot of good chances in the offensive zone and were more than happy to crowd the net in front of Fleury, who looked solid but was rarely tested.

So far home ice advantage and last shift change have been important. The Wings have not lost a home game in the playoffs.

Well then, if the Red Wings only beat themselves, and can just turn it on whenever they want and never lose at home and the Pens had nothing to do with it and have revealed their true nature, Detroit’s victory is pretty much a lock. The Wings and their fans must feel like they are in the catbird seat - seems like there’s not much reason left to even drop the puck.

Not true…the Ducks beat them. Sure, it took 3 OTs, and they still lost the series (obviously), but the Wings have lost on home ice this postseason. And remember what the Penguins did to Washington in game 7 on the road already this year.

Aaaaannnndd… as the saying goes; anything can happen in game 7.

Hentor, I was mainly focusing on the schitzophrenic (err “split personality”) nature of this year’s Detroit team. 3 idiotic pinches in 2 games in Pittsburgh lead to 3 goals, but the Wings haven’t done that at home (nor indeed in their previous series, much less during their title run last year), and my main point was how completely uncharacteristic such bad decisions are for them. Pittsburgh certainly has enough weapons even if Detroit plays it very close to the vest, no disrespect intended there at all.

I’m a little too anxious for this game. I’m to the point where I can’t wait until its over, win or lose. Go Wings.

First time I gonna go to a bar with my son to watch the game tonight…he turned 21 two months ago and was my hockey kid since he was 6.

This is gonna be fun!

All I’m hoping for is a good, clean, close game. And no nonsense from the officials. I don’t want any Brett Hull skate in the crease goals to decide this. It’s been too good of a series and these two teams are too good for garbage like that. Plus, I don’t want to hear complaints from either side about the officiating.

I want the Penguins to win, but if the Wings do, I can’t say they weren’t the better team. Except for game 5, this has been a lot of fun.

Here we go…I am a nervous wreck. Go Wings!

Here we go!
Good luck everybody!

Ya know…the announcers keep saying "so and so has the puck…a University of Wherever U. graduate"Not once have they done that with Kunitz…A Ferris State University product!!!

Wild finish to the 1st. Good period.
