Good first period. Good commercials too, at least on NBC. Saw a Transformers 2 trailer, looks awesome. Didn’t know Muhammed Ali was a Wings fan either.
Ali has lived in the Detroit area for many years,IIRC.
The teams certainly look even after 1. The Wings dominated the first 6-7 minutes. The Penguins took the next 10. The wings came back for about 2 minutes, and the Pens finished strong. This game certainly could go either way.
Right now, I’m just agonizing over the whiff Malkin had on a PERFECT feed from Crosby on the powerplay.
I missed most of the first period, but my thoughts so far is fuck the officiating. Absolutely atrocious so far.
Detroit got hosed on that no-call icing resulting in the Pittsburgh goal. Pittsburgh got hosed on two penalties - not a hook, and definitely not a hold, especially considering all the other shit going on.
Really classy, Wings fans…standing up to cheer when an opposing player gets hurt. Even with players I hate, I have never, in my sports fan life, cheered for an injury to an opponent.
So, the ref gets in the way of the puck on a Detroit power play, so the next chance they get the Wings board the ref?

Alright Pens…keep it up! I don’t think 2 goals is going to be enough against this team tonight, so I’d like to see at least one or two more…especially with Crosby possibly out the rest of the game.

All right Penguins. 20 Minutes of scoreless hockey gets you a Cup. Boy…this is the time I get a bit nervous that the young Pens might also get nervous. Detroit started to get after it at the end there, so hopefully the Pens can regroup during the intermission and play the third like they played the first 15 of the 2nd.
Ok, my heart’s in my throat from the last two minutes. Detroit looks like they’re getting their shit back together. They had slow feet for a lot of the period, but to their credit, they’ve picked it up.
As far as the non-icing…that’s such a “normal” play anymore (the flip dump from center), I don’t think you’ll see that called much if ever.
