As I watch my Penguins throw away any chance at playoff berth, I’m left wondering. What is the NHL record for a winless streak. Can the Pens do it? Does it count if it runs into next season?
From This page.
It doesn’t seem they count multiple-season streaks, at least not on this site.
The longest losing streak is 17 games. this page indicates that San Jose is tied for that record. but I’m not sure with whom they share that dubious honor.
Back in the early part of the 1980 season the Winnipeg (Losipeg) Jets had a streak of 30 games without a win (0-23-7). I can’t find anything that keeps track over multiple seasons. I imagine that if the Pens close out the season without a win, the media in Pittsburgh will make mention of the streak at the beginning of the next season.
They share it with the 1975 Washington Capitals.
The last time the Pens had a 13 game winless streak was Jan, 2 1982 – Feb. 10 1982 when they had a team record 18 game winless streak.
