I was hoping a baseball guru could confirm or correct: How long was the Orioles’ losing streak of 1988? 0-63? And, is this the longest losing streak in the entire history of Major League Baseball (MLB)? Trying to recollect… - Jinx
The 1988 Orioles started the season 0-21, the American League record. I’m not sure what the National League record is.
It was just the American League record. In 1961, The Phillies lost 23 games in a row.
Oops! Sorry! Everything just seems 3x worse
when it’s your team doin’ the losin’!!!

A list of the worst losing streaks ever, with the team’s season record in parentheses:
23 - Philadelphia Philles, 1961 (47-107)
21 - Baltimore Orioles, 1988 (54-107)
20 - Boston Braves, 1906 (49-102)
20 - Philadelphia Athletics, 1916 (36-117)
20 - Philadelphia Athletics, 1943 (49-105)
19 - Detroit Tigers, 1975 (57-102)
18 - Philadelphia Athletics, 1920 (48-106)
18 - Washington Senators, 1948 (56-97)
18 - Washington Senators, 1959 (63-91)
17 - Boston Red Sox, 1926 (46-107)
17 - New York Mets, 1962 (40-120)
Obviously, only truly lousy teams are capable of such ineptness. All these teams were losing teams even if you discount the entire losing streak.
Interestingly, all is not lost for such teams; the Phillies after 1961 had five or six xtraight winning seasons. The Orioles contended the next year, losing a hearbreaker to the Blue Jays on the season’s last weekend. The 1959 Senators team than lost all those games featured the core players of what would one day become a very good team.
The 1899 Cleveland Spiders lost 24 straight games en route to a 20-134 finish.
Then after one win. They lost their last 16 games of the season.
After getting a record (somewhere between 12 and 15) wins in a row, the Brewers managed to get the same number of losses in a row-can’t remeber the year.
