NHL Regular season thread

The final double overtime shot was crazy. The bounce off the backboard, then off the goalie’s skate into the net. I watched it on TV as it happened. Bonkers.

I know official reports were that it bounced off his “skate”, but when they replayed it in slow motion, it was higher than that.

Short video just showing that final goal:

I’m not a huge hockey fan but that was fun.

Heheeh, and that’s the kind of thing that I point to when someone questions my belief that luck is very important in hockey. The players are skilled, and have to be very skilled to make it to that level, but the outcome of the game sometimes doesn’t depend at all about how skilled a particular team is. Without a similarly crazy deflection going into the Canes’ net earlier in the game, it wouldn’t even have gone to OT.

Once the puck is in play it’s gonna do whatever it wants.

And dat’s dat. Carolina sealed it with a shutout of Vegas in what appears to have been a heavily defensive game with a bunch of crazy scrambles at the net. I’m happy to see that Stankoven got an assist. His performance in the playoffs has made me miss him even more.

That’s 5 out of the last 7 cups won by south-east teams. What the hell is going on?

Not only that, a team from the former Southeast Division has been in 8 out of the last 9 Cup Finals.

And 14 out of the last 30 Cup Finals.

Torts won’t be coaching Vegas next season…:open_mouth:

:exploding_head: Wow, that’s more unexpected than him getting the job in the first place.
