NHL - Oct-Nov-Dec 2016

Not a lot of traffic in these threads in the past so I started this one as a three-month block instead of one.

Regular season play starts October 12.

I have dropped my season ticket count from three to two for this season. I will attend very few week-night games.

Saturday I’ll see a play at the Shakespeare Theater in the afternoon and the Caps home opener in the evening. Will I see two tragedies or just one?

I prefer monthly threads, but let’s see how much action the thread gets. I renewed my Game Center Live for this season and I anticipate I’ll be watching more hockey this season.

One hell of a first period for Austen Matthews.

Well, I’m impressed by Auston Matthews so far. 2 goals in the first period.

A hat trick on his first three shots!!! I think I’ll be watching more Leafs games this season.

Matthews is so much fun to watch! Damn, this kid is talented.

In a way this kind of reminds me of the Germany-Brazil World Cup match. It just shouldn’t be this easy to score NHL goals.

If only anyone else on his team could score…

The Sharks got off to an inauspicious start, giving up a goal on the very first shot of the game, but managed to right the ship and start the season with a 2-1 victory over the Kings.

So the Maple Leafs drafted a guy who scores four goals a game, and they STILL lost.

But at least he’s on my fantasy dynasty team!

If the fight against ignorance is taking this long, how long will it take for the Leafs to get back to glory?

Impressive start by the Blue Jackets, the “worst team in the league”, up 2-0 against the Bruins in the home opener.

Well, at the 1/246th of the season yardstick, the Wings signing Vanek looks like a genius move.

Blackhawks looked like they were stuck in glue much of last night. I hope the Stars are moving better tonight. And, I hope Jonathan Quick isn’t really hurt.

I don’t really have strong feelings. I started it as a three month because it didn’t look like the monthly regular season threads ever get to a second page.

Of course, the Jackets found a way to choke away two 2 goal leads. Safe is Death? More like Same Old Jackets. Tortorella will be fired by Thanksgiving.

The NHL has made all teams cease offering their own apps. Now, you can only access content through the NHL app. Naturally this sucks as the Blue Jackets app was excellent, which featured access to all the Blue Jackets podcasts and radio coverage.

But can they establish a new record for most consecutive losses to start the season (exceeding last year’s 8 in a row will be tough).

I was betting on something like a 4-4-2 start before the wheels fell off, but they could still collapse even sooner and be out of the playoff race by early November.

Remember though, management is on the right track. Stay the course!

The San Jose Sharks have 11 shots on goal and are leading the Jackets by 2-0 and the first period isn’t over. Tortorella might be gone by Halloween, this team is a disaster.

With 50 seconds left in the third period, down 2-1, the Florida Panthers make a goaltender changer to buy some breathing time. Panthers score to tie up the game! Haven’t seen this trick in a while.
