NHL Oct. 2017

Well, the new season is upon us. The opening night is tomorrow, Oct. 4 with:

Toronto - Winnipeg
St. Louis - Pittsburgh
Calgary - Edmonton
Philadelphia - San Jose

And, speaking of Calgary, it looks like Jagr has agreed to a one year $1M contract, with bonus potentials of another $1M.

The Leafs are going to have an outstanding year this year. No, they will not win the cup, but they will make the playoffs and go deep.

I can’t wait!

Just saw that the Las Vegas Golden Knights claimed Malcom Subban on waivers, a pretty dumb move by the Bruins to expose him.

24 hours. Just 24 hours until we raise the banner!!! And the Pens got their rings today!

Woohoo Jagr. As long as he is still playing I’m still not technically to old to make the NHL.

I expect the Wings to have another mediocre season.

This is great news for the Las Vegas Knights… Pickard wasn’t very impressive in the pre-season.

It’s just “Vegas Golden Knights.” Get used to it.

Nope; not gonna happen.

My as-of-now-one-man campaign to change the name WILL be successful!

I’ve already got league muckety-mucks and sportscasters saying it. It’s only a matter of time…

I mean, c’mon, what’s more succinct and evocative of the city and team: VGK or LVK?

According to the Pens website, it is now 7 min and 25 secs until banner raising!!! I seriously have chills, I am so excited. (But you knew that, right?)

The Golden Knights are my second team, just because of Fleury. (You guys had better appreciate him!)

3-0 Leafs over Jets after 1. :relaxed:

Mike Milbury in place of Eddie Olczyk on NBCSN? Ick. I hope he mostly says nothing. Also, another hockey voice undergoing cancer treatment. Damn.

Yeah on thoselines, RIP Dave Strader, :frowning:
I can still remember his voice from his Red Wings days in my head clear as a bell.

I’d be happy with mediocre.

Slight tangent: for all the Wings fans, I need some help. My son’s favorite player was Pavel Datsyuk. With The Magic Man effectively retired, he’s trying to pick a new one. My son plays wing so he relates to wings or centers more than defensemen.

Larkin was looking like a good one after his rookie season, but last year was forgettable. Mantha is another possibility. I’m hoping Frk is a breakout because he has the teeth (or lack thereof) of a hockey player, seems like a fun guy in interviews, and the lettering would be cheaper on his jersey than Abdelkader. Anyone else I should tell him to watch?

The problem with Larkin is that he really only had .5 good seasons, and 1.5 mediocre ones. After the all-star break his rookie year he wasn’t nearly as good as the start. The mean level of play, isn’t looking too good math wise.

I’d go with Mantha, but then again I already had him in the Hall of Fame when he was drafted, so I may not be the most objective.

Connor McDavid 3, Flames 0. Sigh.

I’m sure there will be bright spots in the Flames’ season, but opening nights sure aren’t one of them. Also, looking forward to Jagr. I hope he can an asset to the team. Although he does seem to have the Travelling Jagrs in a tizzy.

Blackhawks up 4-0 after the first 10 minutes, 5-0 at the end of the first period

10-1 against the Penguins is a pretty good way for the Blackhawks to start their season, eh.

After that 5th goal, I changed the channel. What the HELL happened?

Good start for the Wings. All three of my guys (Mantha, Larkin, and Frk) had goals. Extrapolating, I’m expecting 82 goals for all of them this season. It’s an exciting line - the oldest is Frk, and he only turned 24 today.

That Chicago score was ridiculous. I always enjoy a Pens smackdown, even if it comes from the Blackhawks.

Ovie’s On pace for 246 goals.
