NHL: The Playoffs

Yep.

I taped the Canucks game since three hockey games and one baseball game in one night is too much even for me. Now I find NBCSN is using the Sharks broadcasters, so I have to listen to Drew Remenda run his mouth. Ugh. There may be broadcasters I dislike more but right now I can’t think of the. Too busy yelling shut up shut up at the TV.

ETA it’s not that I’m a Canucks fan. I just hate “homies” in general and Remenda in particular.

Craig Anderson stops 48 shots as the Sens beat the Habs 4-2.

The Senators have played a hundred playoff games, or whatever the number is, and I don’t ever remember their goalie stealing a game before. It’s a standard thing for a team that does well in the playoffs, but this might be a first in the team’s history. Anderson just flat out pulled a heist.

Yes!!!
Nyquist before bed will help me sleep better.

Agreed. He held them in that game long enough to come back after they suffered through a terrible 2nd period. The botched up power play, the Montreal tying goal, a 5 minute major coupled with a 2 minute 5 on 3. He stood on his head.

Wondering what Brendan Shanahan will decide regarding Gryba’s hit.
Good breakdown of it here :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83qHq-RgEGM
It kinda looks like it may have been his face hitting the ice and his visor that caused the lacerations.
Honestly, I think it’s over and Gryba will play tonight. If he does, I hope Montreal concentrates on the game and doesn’t waste their effort on retribution.

Consider the rivalry stoked up!

LA played much better last night, but let up a bit in the 3rd and let the Blues come back. Another pretty weak GWG given up by Quick, unless it took a deflection I couldn’t see. Now it’s off to LA and the real series starts - Kings have been much, much better at home this season.

Yeah buddy… Crosby in the lineup tonight:

Another Blues win while I wasn’t watching. There’s no way in Hell I can watch them now.

Saw that on the crawl while I was watching Dan Patrick today and I actually cheered. I am super psyched. Looks like Jokinen will be in, but Neal’s out. I hope it isn’t another concussion.

You know, even as a Sens fan I assumed Gryba had hit Eller in the head, and so deserved a suspension. But that TSN video makes a pretty convincing case that he did not.

Suspended for 2 games.

In related news, is the Ottawa Sun always this tasteless? (I’m not saying I’m squeamish about blood in sports, but considering the severity of the injuries, and the aftermath, not exactly the best choice!)

The Sun chain is just barely above the level of tabloids. It’s absolute trash.

As a Pens fan, that ruling is absurd. That video does not show what he says it shows - there is never a point that Gryba’s body touches his head, from any angle. His shoulder hits the high chest area, below the chin, and it seems from the reverse angle that his hip made contact first.

Also, Ferrence got 1 game for a CLEARLY illegal elbow to the head, but Gryba gets 2 games for what is, from Shanahan’s own reasoning, non-intentional contact during a completely legal body check?

From the same game, Subban launches himself into Neil, leaving his feet, then celebrates afterwards - and that’s not a penalty? Not even a minor? And I’m no fan of either player.

Oh, and there wasn’t any kind of hearing for Reasoner’s intentional knee-on-knee to Jokinen during garbage time late in the 3rd? Not to mention, Brown’s knee-on-knee AND (attempted) elbow on Schwartz?

Maybe it’s me, but the refing seems insanely inconsistent this year. And not from team to team - I don’t think they’re favoring anybody - but play to play, all over the map. Also, Shanahan doesn’t seem much better than Campbell at this point.

Ditto for the Blue radio PBP and Color Analyst (had to hear them on XM radio since I was on the road)…I think he only knew 4 or 5 guys on the Kings and barely uttered any more names unless there was an uncalled (perceived) penalty against the Kings, otherwise I had to hear about all 20 guys on the Blues and still wondered who took the last faceoff for the Kings. To be honest, I think they don’t know half the Kings players on the ice at any given time.

Well, when you’ve been listening to Bob Miller you do get a bit spoiled.

I don’t agree with the suspension but I see why they want to deter similar hits.

The refs have been letting too much garbage go on throughout the league.Where the hell are the boarding, high-sticking, goaltender interference, cross-checking, holding the stick, and roughing penalties after the whistle? You call them all year but not for the playoffs?

Sure, let them play but the rules have to be enforced.

Since when do they call them during the year?

Caps beat Rangers in OT. Not often the losing goalie is the first star of the game.

Leafs showing some life? Could be interesting after all.

The exact opposite of Game 1; the Leafs managed to use their speed and make it THEIR kind of game, which Boston cannot win. The Bruins do not have the mobility or counterpunch to beat Toronto if Toronto is allowed to make the game up-tempo.

I like series where you have two totally different teams. You never quite know what you’re going to get.
