Minnesota Wild get Chris Simon from the New York Islanders for a 6th round pick
Actually, Hossa was consistently Ottawa’s best player in the playoffs. With the rest of the offense disappearing, he couldn’t do much on his own.
Brian Murray has confirmed that Ottawa has no more deals pending.
ETA: Bruins, Ducks and Canucks are also done.
Stuart goes to Detroit for a second and fourth round pick.
Rysto beat me…so some analysis.
Good to see that the Leafs got rid of Gill. I won’t complain about trading anyone on this roster for draft picks. Getting as much as they did for Gill and Belak was a minor positive step but these other contracts are going to kill us.
I’m a Sens fan, but I gotta tell you that I am really concerned if the defending conference champions needed to import leadership in the form of a guy who’s never been known as a big leader and is coming from a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in quite some time. I think this was just a straight-up replacement deal, to fill in Chris Neil, who might be hurt pretty bad.
They don’t need “leadership,” they need better defense.
I agree that it’s a good thing the Sens didn’t overpay for Hossa. That’s just an insane deal. When was the last time a big name acquisition at the trade deadline helped win a Stanley Cup? It just doesn’t happen; no one player’s worth that much, or else the few that have been don’t get traded. Marian Hossa’s a great scorer and a decent enough guy but two months of him, which might increase their chances of getting into the Finals by one or two percent, is not worth the potential they gave up.
As a Sens fan I AM thrilled the Leafs couldn’t move any of their really big albatrosses (although I’m shocked they got that much for Hal Gill, and got anything at all for Wade Belak, who I would not take for the waiver price.) Excellent. Excellent.
And a 3rd round pick for Chad Kilger. Wow…
Good, now he can be someone else’s liability
Anaheim get Marc-Andre Bergeron from the New York Islanders for a 3rd round pick
Al Montoya and Marcel Hossa have been trading to the Coyotes for Sjostrom, Leneveu and J.Gratton.
Poor Montoya. He finally gets out from under Lunqvist’s shadow and ends up behind Bryzgalov.
The core of the team is the same as the one that made the finals last season. That team managed to play excellent defence in the playoffs. Somebody needs to step up and get the team to play like they did last season. I think that you underestimate the effective of a solid, gritty veteran with two cup rings.
JS Aubin is traded to the Ducks for a seventh round pick.
Pure depth move by the Ducks.
Minor trade between Atlanta and Washington.
2 guys that I haven’t even heard of.
You can’t beat me, Kid_A. I’m sitting at my computer listening to TSN in the background.
So am I…damn, I’m actually in Toronto. Those electrons don’t have to go as far to reach me; it must be my typing.
You win.
Gah, been trying to keep up on everything through the Trade Tracker on TSN but they seem to have stopped updating it. Thanks for keeping me in the loop guys
Just to be complete…
Atlanta gets Joe Motzko from Washington for Alex Giroux
Like Cory Stillman?
As Thehockeynews.com says “The Ducks now have the market cornered on goaltenders with the first name of J-S.”
I’d hoped the Wings would get Hossa, but a comparative price would’ve been Franzen and Fillpula plus the pick on a maybe resign. That’s pretty steep. Stuart is a nice pickup. He gives the wings some depth on defense, which is important since right now we’re minus our top four defensemen. Fedorov also would’ve been good. Still, I’m happy with the Wings lineup.
I was surpised to see Foote and Forsberg back with the Avs. Somebody go make sure that Roy is still in retirement. Plus Dallas picking up Richards means the West is going to be an outright brawl. Detroit, Dallas, Colorado (should they make the playoffs), Anaheim, San Jose.
Heh. Bet some number eight seed wipes out all of them.
