NHL Trade Deadline

My Sharks traded Steve Bernier and a first-round pick next year to Buffalo for Brian Campbell and a seventh-rounder. I like the move. Our defense is fine but Campbell can move the puck, which is an ability we needed. I’m still waiting on anything involving Patrick Marleau.

What’s your team doing?

Traded Wade Belak for a 5th round pick. I’m surprised the Leafs were able to get something for a fourth line goon.

I’m hoping for more (a lot more).

As a Sens fan, I love the Lapointe acquisition. They desperately need his leadership in the room.

The Huet trade just shows how weak the market is for goaltenders. Anybody who believes that Ottawa can dump either Gerber or Emery – even in the offseason – is delusional.

ETA: I live in fear that Ottawa’s going to vastly overpay for Hossa. The way that the team has played since November would make that a total waste.

Actually it’s the other way around, no biggie.

You’re right.

The website that I was pulling the trades from switched it around.

Where is Hossa going to land? Everyone has been thinking that it’s going to be Montreal but that was 3 hours ago. What’s holding it up?

I’m still hoping he comes here. More hoping to be rid of Marleau, actually.

The Sharks will make the biggest mistake in team history if they trade Marleau now. He’s just about the only player on the team worth a damn in the playoffs, and trading him now, when his value is at its absolute lowest, is lunacy.

Vancouver gets Matt Pettinger from Washington for Matt Cooke.

I would hold off on trading Marleau until the off-season; his value is way too low right now.

Great move by Ottawa picking up Lapointe for a 6th rounder. He should help to straighten out that dressing room.

This one makes me cry. The Blues traded a decent, if unspectacular, defenseman for a cement head with a dislocated shoulder. Salvador was a loyal soldier and a good guy. I was hoping he’d play his career in St. Louis. Sure, Janssen gew up in St. Louis, and I’m sure it’ll be nice to have him on the team. But Salvador for him? Crap.

My Ducks so far are standing pat. Brian Burke even made an announcement today that he likes our guys. His biggest deal though was a few weeks ago when he brought back Selanne.

On July 1st Marleau has a NTC kick in. If San Jose wants to move him doing it before the draft would probably be best.

I knew that…

I meant that 2 week off-season between the end of the finals and July 1.

Looking for the Isles to get rid of Satan. Hopefully it will happen in the next 8 minutes. They need to get some youth after trading so much of it away (still bitter about the damn Smyth trade and his move to play in Colorado for less money). Have to say, right now, the trade that has shocked me the most is Huet to Washington. Where does he fit in with Kolzig?

[li]Pittsburgh gets Hall Gill from Toronto for a 2nd and 5th round pick[/li][li]New York Rangers get Christian Backman from St. Louis for a 4th round pick[/li][li]Pittsburgh gets Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis from Atlanta for Angelo Esposito, Erik Christensen, Colby Armstrong and a 1st round pick[/li][/ul]

Wow…

Hossa and Dupuis go to the Penguins for Christensen, Armstrong, Angelo Esposito and (possibly) a first round pick.

My Kings haven’t done anything yet  … but I’m hoping for a busy afternoon.

Horrific overpayment by the Penguins. They’ll dearly regret that deal. I’m so glad Ottawa didn’t try to overbid that.

The deadline has passed now.

It’s too much for a guy that always disappears in the playoffs.

A couple of trades always straggle in late. I think the Ryan Smyth trade came in almost a hour after the deadline passed last year.
