Even when Buffy was on the air, I’m not sure Brendon was exactly a household name, or that he had the fame or money to support much in the way of a sycophantic entourage.
I suspect he just has the same problems with alcohol lots of non-celebrities have.
I have also heard rumors that Charisma Carpenter’s career has suffered because of substance abuse problems. She was a decent comic actor in the Buffy days and a beautiful woman.
She was good on Veronica Mars (still looked gorgeous too) and is currently hosting “Surviving Evil”. Alone in a hotel room for a week, you’ll watch Slice TV if it is the only thing on
Considering her personal history, I would cut her a LOT of slack if she were found to be self-medicating for PTSD. Being attacked by a serial rapist and having your friend shot is not easy to move on from.
I know nothing about her personal history. I do know that unless you are a marquee actor, you don’t necessarily get a lot of slack from producers if your personal problems get in the way of your work.
I know this is from 4 years ago, but Dawson casting usually results in the reverse. You cast a 25 year old as a high school sophomore, and 20 years later he still looks like a high school sophomore. A guy who looks young at 25 is probably going to have that baby face for the rest of his life.
You cast a 15 year old as a baby-faced high school sophomore and in 3 years he’s 8 inches taller and 80 pounds heavier and needing to shave twice a day.
Then maybe people will give Nicholas Brendon some slack. He just gave an interview where he reveals that he was molested for two years as a child and he suffers from depression because of it.
“I hate this. I hate the way I feel right now. I hate how I’ve come off,” he told the newspaper on March 16. “This isn’t who I am.”
She’s also landed a recurring gig on Hawaii Five-O. But I’d rather see her in a fourth season of Defiance (because I want a fourth season of Defiance).
