Has it ever been explained why the dog and cat are connected at their torsos? I don’t get it, as I don’t normally watch the show.

I find that show very vaguely creepy.
I like the theme song, though. It reminds me of BR5-49 or Riders In The Sky, the lyrics having been written during a trip.
They were born like that. It’s explained quite nicely in the theme song.

I love that show, well most of the time. It’s the type of thing that gets annoying after a while. I do believe your question has been answered.
Does anyone know why it is that in that show and in many others, that those these animals are pets, they can talk, but their pets can’t?

Catdog creeps me right out. Why do cartoons have to be so damn ugly these days? Was it The Simpsons? Rugrats? I can’t stand to look at any of them except the Japanese ones, in which the drawing, though stylized, is at least not repulsive. But of course, even “mainstream” anime consists entirely of people with very strange names getting killed.
I’m glad I don’t have kids, I really am.
I LOVE CatDog! But I am a big fan of nearly all the cartoons on Nickelodeon. My absolute favorite is Ren & Stimpy, with CatDog & Spongebob Squarepants tied for second.
The CatDog theme song is definitely one of the better ones. My musician husband absolutely loves it.

My favorite Nick cartoon was AHHH! Real Monsters, but I don’t think that they show it anymore.
Another question to go along with the “why can they talk but not their pets?”
Why in some cartoons like “Franklin” does he have a name but his friends are called by what they are? Like bear and fox.
My all time favorite cartoon is Jonny Bravo. I even have my ICQ set for his sounds.
I watched CatDog this weekend with my 10 year old cousin. I’m still wondering how the thing goes to the bathroom… or maybe I don’t want to know.
Whenever one side eats something, the other side coughs it up, undigested.
Sometimes, they put a rock in the middle so they can do separate stuff. They’re very elastic. If they get too far apart, they send the mouse-friend through them to find the other one and make him come home.

One of the things I love about watching cartoons with the kids is seeing that some great 80s musicians are still making a living. Danny Elfman (late of Oingo Boingo), who wrote the Simpsons music, might be the most high-profile, but Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson (B52s) can be heard singing the theme to “Rocko’s Modern Life,” and Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo) did the music for Rugrats and a couple of other shows. I know there are more, but I’ll have to wait for the next Nicktoon marathon and write them down.
CatDog is one of my favorites, now that I’ve gotten over my initial revulsion.
Boy, that drives me nuts! Yes, he has a name, but his friends are just Fox and Bear. That darn bear looks just like Little Bear, too, just to confuse things even more.
And on Little Bear, the parents wear clothes, but not the kids.
My kids love the Nickelodeon cartoons, CatDog, SpongeBob SquarePants, Hey Arnold, Rugrats, Rocket Power, Two Angry Beavers…they’re all funny.
Now I’ve got that damn CatDog song stuck in my head…thanks a lot, Persephone!

It’s an okay show, but I get tired of the gang, and Dog whining “But, Caa-AAA-aat!” every few seconds. SpongeBob Squarepants is much better. Great theme (w/synchro-voxed pirate!) AND great scripts.
One or the other has a Steven Banks listed in the credits. Is this the same Banks who had a music-themed sitcom on New Orleans PBS?
…who is a Nickelodeon addict. Saturday mornings we get up, run around in our PJs (OK, I wear a T-shirt and beach shorts!) and tune in. Mrs. O couldn’t figure out for the life of her why I’d suddenly shout “Are ya ready, kids?!” and the Tzeroling would reply “Aye aye, cap’n!”…
…until she didn’t have to work one Saturday and saw SpongeBob SquarePants.
Now we all sing the theme song at completely random times. A scary lot, we are.
The Tzeroling loves CatDog too, although now we’re getting into repeated episodes and I’m starting to get bored.

The joys of babysitting on Saturday mornings. Time for doing things only fathers and sons know about (get your mind out of the gutter). Mommajesus never could figure out why babyjesus would walk around the house going “I’m ready” for what seemed like hours on end until she saw Bob-Bob (as he’s known around the manger) one night this summer. Now, even momma will burst forth with a round of “I’m ready” occasionally.
Tzeroling is a she. Not that I was specific about it or anything.
don Jaime wins the prize for observancy. She’s not on CatDog as far as I know, it just kinda figured in here as a stream-of-consciousness kind of thing. Especially since she’s on two of the Nicktoons mentioned in the thread.
