They seem to be related to your body relaxing & sleeping.
I have them as a symptom of diabetes, and I have sometimes had them occur in the middle of the afternoon – when I have fallen asleep reading in my chair.
The night sweats were the sign to my PCP to start the blood tests for sugar levels. That and the sugar rush at bedtime from late night sweets. Interesting that my wife noticed the night sweats, I slept through them.
