Nikon D3300 help - Not connecting to MacBook Pro, can't view pics when plugged in

Yesterday I moved a TON of heavy stuff out of the storage unit so that I could take some pictures. I’ve just tried to download the pics onto my MacBook Pro. On my previous MacBook Pro, I just plugged the camera in and it found it as an external drive and Preview opens up. On this one, I don’t see an external drive and Preview does not open up. Also, I am unable to view pictures on the camera when the camera is plugged into the computer. (I can scroll through the pics if it’s not plugged in.)

Going to the storage unit, getting stuff out, and taking pictures is a GIANT pain the ass. So how can I get the pictures off of my camera and onto my computer?

OK, it looks like it doesn’t work that way anymore. Apparently I have to use Image Capture now.

Yeah, looking through the manuals and online, it doesn’t seem like you have an option between PTP and Mass Storage modes on Nikons anymore (the latter is what you want if you want the Nikon to show up on your computer as an external drive.) Regardless, I would advise getting a card reader and connecting and ingesting your memory cards that way.

Can’t you just take the SD card out of the camera and plug it into the MacBook?

Personally with my D3500 I just use Lightroom (and before that, Photos) to get everything off the camera. I’m guessing they are expecting you to do it that way. I also find it a lot easier than messing with the SD card.

Depends on the year of his MacBook. It’s been many years since I’ve seen one with an SD slot. The last one I have that has it is from 2011. Not sure when they stopped it, but it’s been awhile. Looks like the end of 2016, so a bit more recent than I thought, but I know none of my wife’s three MacBooks have SD slots.

Heck, my MacBook doesn’t even have a USB port!
