Nintendogs

Who’s excited? I finally broke down and preordered it, since I knew which one I wanted (Dachshund and Friends) and was worried that stores would either sell out or only get certain copies in stock. Learning about the game was pretty much the reason I got a Nintendo DS - I was on the fence until I saw E3 footage of it and almost crapped myself.

I think the game is really going to be THE Killer App for the Nintendo DS - and it helps that they’re dropping the price to $129.99 when the game comes out.

For those not in-the-know, Nintendogs is a virtual puppy simulator for the Nintendo DS handheld system. You use the system’s microphone to talk to, call, and train your dog, and you use the touch screen to pet it, bathe it, throw a frisbee, hold on to its leash, etc. You can check out some footage here. AWESOME.

But does it talk back? Insult your humanity? The most important question is: Does Leonard Nimoy narrate it?

I’m seriously hoping for a remake of “Seaman” for the Nintendo DS. It would be the PERFECT system to do it on - built-in mic, touch-screen…here’s to hoping.

My cats will think I’m crazy. I want one!

I think I want the Lab and Friends. I love Corgis and MinPins. My husband will be very disappointed; unless I’m overlooking it, there are no Jack Russell Terriers to be seen.

This is perfect for me! I love dogs, but I’m allergic to most breeds.

I don’t know. I love Pokemon and totally get attached to the little pixels, but I’m not sure I want to plunk down that much money for a next generation Tomagachi.

Then again, I’ll be living in an apartment that doesn’t allow pets next year. Eh, we’ll see.

I was looking forward to Nintendogs so much I couldn’t wait for the US release; I bought the import version. It’s just as endearing as it looks in the videos. The part that got me was when I first saw the puppy run up and put his paws up on the screen so you can pet him.

It’s kind of short-lived, though. I taught mine how to sit & shake, took her for a couple of walks, and entered her into a frisbee-throwing contest (which she won), but have run out of things to do with the game. I’m hoping that’s just a function of my getting the Japanese version, because it puts up several dialog boxes that I can’t read. I suspect those are suggesting new ways for me to play the game.

I think they’re going for a different audience than with Seaman. It’s a lot more calming, for one thing: you don’t have to construct your life around feeding the thing every day on schedule or it’ll die.

I’m also really excited and want the Dachshund version (Can’t resist the pugs and goldies!). I feel sort of silly wanting this game, but I used to spend hours on Dogz/Catz game years ago for my computer, so I’m sure I’ll like this one, too.

I’m glad some more interesting games are starting to come out for the DS, I was starting to regret buying one.

Does anyone have any experience pre-ordering games from online (like, say, Amazon?) Because I want to get this as soon as it comes out, but I’m also worried the game store near me will sell out of the dachshund version.

It has been kidn of slow going, but from here on out, there’s at least two or three killer DS games a month until at least Christmas - Advance Wars, Lost in Blue, Trace Memory, Animal Crossing, etc. Many of them are coming out on the same day in their respective months.

Some people on the Nintendogs livejournal community are already getting their copies, if that’s any indication. From what I understand, Amazon isn’t particularly worried about making you wait until the exact release date when you preorder something unless it’s the new Harry Potter book.

Yes indeed, I am going to be very happy and very broke in the coming months! (I’ll need another job just for my DS bill. :)) I can’t wait until AdWars and Animal Crossing DS - I think the wireless link-up aspect will be amazing.

Thanks for the info, VCO3! I just pre-ordered my copy online, so hopefully it will get here sooner than later.

Amazon still had not shipped my copy today (it comes out monday!), and the estimated arrival date was next saturday, so I cancelled the order and am just going ot take my chances at the store. Way to punish people for preordering!

The people who decided which dogs were to be bundled together were devious masterminds; there’s at least two in each game that I want, and I’ve heard similar from other people. I’m planning on getting the Lab & Friends one, primarily for the Corgi. Love those dogs. I’m sure my cat will understand if he doesn’t get as much attention as he has been once it comes out…

I’m not absolutely positive on this, but I am pretty sure that the bundled dogs with each different pack are only the breeds you have immediate access to when you first choose. Once you play the game, the other breeds (or most of them?) can be unlocked by finding certain items, meeting other dogs through wireless, or reaching different goals, etc. I think this is much better than having to buy all three, because like you, I also had a hard time deciding.

I wish I knew another person with a DS and nintendogs though. I might just have to roam around downtown with it on, searching hopefully for a friendly signal.

Yep, you’re exactly right. I was worried for a bit until I read THIS review.

I can’t wait for it. I’ll also seciond VCO3…I want to play Seaman again.
