I’ve just finished watching the first two seasons on DVD (I don’t get F/X), and liked it quite a bit. I’ve heard mixed things about the third season, though, and I’m wondering just how eager I should be to rent it when it is available. That is, should I put all the discs at the top of my Netflix queue right away and spend a weekend on the couch, or can you recommend specific worthwhile episodes?
First, I know who the Carver is. So, there’s none of that “whodunnit” suspense. But I do find the story intriguing, so if it’s played out well I’ll still enjoy watching Carver-centric episodes.
I like the show the most when it focuses on Sean and Christian (duh), and feel it weakens when they spend a lot of time apart. And I love Kimber. What I don’t like is when Matt is being a whiny little punk. If I can help it, I’d like to minimize further exposure to his girl-trauma; he’s an idiot.
For administrative purposes, let’s keep open all info on Seasons 1 & 2, but box any significant Season 3 spoilers, since it’s not out on DVD yet.
If you don’t like Matt, IMHO you’ll hate Season 3. I disliked Matt from the beginning, but by Season 3 I hated him, and every single scene he was in made my eyes and ears bleed. And he was in a lot of Season 3.
3 was definitely the weakest of the seasons- I started off as a very dedicated N/T fan, but I found myself having to force my way through a good number of the episodes this time around. I didn’t like the way the writers were playing with the characters, the plots got increasingly outrageous, and I felt that there was a lot of ways they could have gone that would have been more interesting. It certainly doesn’t help that I find Julia tedious. If you know who the Carver is, then a lot of the “fun” of the season is, again in MHO, lost… that was the only thing holding my attention. Well, that, and Julian nekkid. But even he was ruined for me by the end of the season, with some very, very, very, VERY out-of-character moments.
I’m a bit scared where they’re going to go with it next season.
He’s my favorite in the show! This is getting very depressing.
Are there any good episodes that might be worth renting? I’ll probably rent the season finale, just to see how they reveal the Carver. So, how much would I need to watch so that the finale makes some kind of sense?
Or, I could can the whole thing. I liked the last episode of Season 2, maybe I’m better off enjoying the pleasant memories and moving on…
I don’t like Matt either, but he had a story line with a racist girlfriend that was kind of interesting.
Do you know for sure who the Carver is? Did you read a spoiler somewhere? Most viewers guessed correctly early on, but revealing the Carver’s identity wasn’t the end of the story – there was more to it.
Oh. Anne Heche was in a few episodes. Does that help with your decision?
