NJ Senator Menendez indicted on multiple corruption charges {2023-09-22} - Convicted on all counts on July 16, 2024

There’s always some extra change fallen down behind the couch cushions.

Probably a few dents in the drums of the washer and dryer, though.

Kruggerands will completely clog up your lint trap

No, they were describing the June 2022 raid, as part of a longer narrative.

So your kids are money launderers?

I can’t believe I set that up and completely failed to see it coming. :man_facepalming:

I think I would be the money launderer. They are no type of launderer at all. It’s a fair division of labor: they dirty the clothes and we wash them.

New York Post scoop: “Gold bar Bob Menendez will not run for re-election to Senate in November — but still refuses to quit”

Gold Bar is pulling 9% support in the Democratic Primary, vs Kim with 32% and Murphy at 20%. Intrepid NY Post reporter previously uncovered story that water is wet, Pope is Catholic, and obvious is obvious.

I suppose a Democrat will pretty likely win in November, but Gold Bar would be doing the party a favor by resigning and letting the governor or a special election name a successor now, so whatever Democrat remains an incumbent.

However, he obviously doesn’t give a shit about his party or his constituents.

I don’t particularly have a problem with Menendez not resigning as long as he’s shut out of classified briefings. And if he did resign, Murphy would get to appoint his wife to the seat which would short-circuit the current race for the Democratic nomination.

I agree with this part. That’s why he should have resigned a year ago when this all came back again and she wasn’t in the running.

It’s more than likely, it’s a lock. The Republican primary is a bunch of no-names. The last elected Republican from the state left office in 1959. There have been Republican governors but that’s because when things aren’t going the way you like you blame the executive. Republican governors have appointed senators since then. Once when Harrison Williams pulled a Menendez and once when Lautenberg died. Chris Christie did the right thing with his appointment. He put in a caretaker senator who had no intention of running. Corey Booker then won the special election. I have no doubt Phil would name Tammy senator.

Might run as an independent! It is but to laugh.

Lack of self-awareness, much?

RFK Jr./Menedez 2024? Why not? What does he have to lose?

Yeah I saw that today. That’s a guy who has had power and influence most of his life and can’t let go. If he had moved on after he got acquitted during his first trial he could still be in a position of power in the private sector. No one even remembers what he was in trouble for before. No one is going to forget goldbars even if he somehow gets off.

Or it proves that he’s corruptible, which is a prime characteristic for some jobs for ex-politicians. And if you’ve got extra dirt on them, you can control them.

Interesting strategy.

Possibly related?

Loach, you all deserve a better senator than these folks. Maybe the surgeon can do the job on his wife with needle-nosed pliers.

He definitely won’t be for long. His term is up. The senate won’t kick him out without a conviction.

Senator Menendez’ corruption trial starts today with a jury selection apparently. I couldn’t get the NBC article to link for some odd reason.
