I really hope you’re right.
There aren’t a lot of polls out there yet but the few that are available have Kim winning pretty easy even with Menendez. I do expect money to come in so we should see a lot of ads. Maybe it tightens up.
What a sack of crap.
Somebody book mark this thread for the next time someone accuses the Dope of being a leftist hivemind that only goes after Republicans and gives Democrats a pass.
In addition to this, I think I also created a Pit thread about Obama’s forays into Libya! I’ve escaped the hive!
Where do you stand on tan suits, though?
Haha! I only like them when Reagan wore them…
Just when you thought you were out they pull you back in.
Haha! There’s no escaping the hive.
We will know in a few hours. Andy Kim still had a couple people on the ballot against him but his main opponent dropped out.
For the Republican primary the choice is basically between two. Curtis Bashaw is a real estate developer with no experience. He was the biggest fundraiser and had a lot of backing from the state bosses. Christine Serrano Glassner is the mayor of a small affluent town. She was endorsed by Trump. It will be interesting to see how it pans out. There were relatively few ads that I heard. It should be a very uphill battle for either but who the hell knows anymore. The state went to Hilary by 14 in 2016 and almost 16 to Biden.
I have no idea about Kim’s vacated House seat. It’s not my district.
Well the Trump backed candidate lost. In a deeply blue state I’m not sure if that means anything.
Rob Menedez won. No not Bob, his son Rob Jr is officially the democratic candidate for Congress.
Can’t make this up.
Ugh. Well, hopefully he’s less corrupt than his father (a low bar, to be sure).
Yeah, his dad sure set the gold standard on corruption.
Haha! Nice.
That’s a bad sign, because I’m guessing he got there mostly by name recognition. An advantage that his father will also have, in his spoiler bid.
Rob Menendez is the incumbent Congressman in NJ 8th District. He was being challenged in his primary but his being renominated was not unexpected.
But he is indeed basically a nepo-baby. He is a 1 term congressman in his father’s old seat. Only prior political experience was a very plum commissioner seat on the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Pretty clearly a political favor for a Senator.
Hopefully he is not corrupt like his father and hopefully he will carve his own path of helping his district, but he is somewhat vulnerable because of his father in a district that shouldn’t be vulnerable. That would be a dumb seat to lose for the Democrats.
Agreed.
Am I not seeing a serious lack of Republicans making a big deal out of the alleged corruption here or just not reading the right news sources?
The district is mostly Hudson County which has been the gold standard of political corruption for over one hundred years. It’s also a district that is 75% Democratic. He’s the incumbent and he’s a democrat. That’s all that’s needed.

Two reasons I think. It’s clear that the Senate will not vote to expel without a conviction. The other senators aren’t that vocal because they are looking at their own gold bars. They are not going to push for a change in senate precedent because they might be next.
The other reason is he’s a lame duck. If this was year two of his term you might have heard more. There were calls for his resignation when he was arrested but his hard no kind of ended that story.
