You are a very bad man.
I like that about you.

I don’t know what made me look it up right now. Various sources on Twitter are saying Murphy will be naming his former Chief of Staff George Helmy as the replacement for Menendez. It won’t affect anything. He will be a placeholder until the election. Andrew Kim is still the big favorite.
I just saw this announced on the NYT as well. So, since you’re so good at this, what are tomorrow’s winning lottery numbers?

The move formally ends a half-century in politics that began on a New Jersey school board and culminated with extraordinary power on the global stage.
Another long New Jersey disgrace ends at last.
Sadly won’t be the last, but seems to be one of our more notorious ones.
Does he get to keep the gold bars at least?
Trade the gold bars for grey bars.
The latest update to the case: he wants a delay. Apparently the whole thing is very taxing on his family. Also if he’s sentenced during his wife’s trial it might prejudice her jury, which I do kinda buy as an excuse.
Who knew that felony convictions could be so upsetting to the people involved?
I’m sure similar courtesies are extended to all convicted felons, no matter how much money they have.
If he’s sentenced before his wife, that’d prejudice her trial. If she’s sentenced before him, that’d prejudice his trial. Obviously, the only fair course of action is to never sentence either.
He’s already been convicted - but it’s the sentencing that would “predjudice” his wife’s jury?
And there’s no “emotional toll” in having sentencing hanging over his head for an extended period?
This sounds like a crook trying to delay the inevitable for as long as possible.
Unpossible!
I don’t. Either the jury can set that aside or they can’t. It’s the defense’s job during jury selection to try to determine if any potential jurors might be prejudiced due to the husband’s conviction and to replace the juror based on that.
It’s like a guy who’s dad was an infamous bank robber; he can claim that he can never have a fair trial anywhere because every juror will automatically be prejudiced due to his dad but what’s the alternative, give him a free pass for life on crimes? No, our system already has a procedure for trying to weed out potential juror bias prior to the start of the trial.
I didn’t say anything about a free pass, just that I agree it might prejudice a jury. But he made his bed, as did she.
That’s true, I hadn’t considered it. I retract my stupid statement.
Since he is is 71 now, he would be 83 when he gets out with normal good behavior credits with that sentence.
He got 11 years
Former Sen. Bob Menendez sentenced to 11 years in prison on corruption charges - ABC News
Good. Fuck that guy.
Agreed.
That’s quite an article. Menendez inside the courtroom:
“Your honor you have before you a chastened man,” Menendez said as his voice began to break. “We sat in this court room for nine weeks, but you really don’t know me.”
“This is who I truly am, judge. A man devoted to service,” Menendez said, becoming emotional as he spoke of family and of constituents he helped. “I have lost everything I have cared about. For someone who spent a life in public service, every day is a punishment.”
Menendez outside the courtroom:
“Regardless of the judge’s comments, today, I am innocent, and I look forward to filing appeals on a whole host of issues,” Menendez said.
“President Trump is right – this process is political and it’s corrupted to the core,” Menendez said. “I hope President Trump cleans up the cesspool and restores the integrity to the system.”
I’m all for weighing competing considerations, but at this point I can’t see anything in the mitigating column that survives scrutiny. Routine constituent services don’t qualify.
