For at least a decade, I’ve occasionally seen albums cited as a certain position on the “New Musical Express Top 50 Albums of All Time” list. This is supposedly a list focusing primarily on the punk era of the 70s and 80s. I’ve searched the NME site in vain for the list, even though they refer to it occasionally. Does anyone know where I might find this list?
on the NME site: http://microsites.nme.com/top100/site/index.html
or for easier reading: http://www.wmich.edu/mus-gened/mus152/nme100.html
Note that this is Oct 93, the last one they did…
Ah thanks, maybe I’d have found it if I’d searched for “Top 100” instead of “Top 50.” I wonder if there are any of these lists still hanging around from earlier years, just to see if it has changed much.
dunno. Damn fine list though, even though it’s got a few “where are they nows” like Jesus&Mary Chain, Pixies and Sundays. Also, I’m not sure I would’ve put Pet Sounds at #1.
Marvin Gaye at #4? And Nirvana at #12?!? I gotta find an older version of this list. Something pre-Grunge. I’m mostly looking for a list of the greatest Punk albums to see if I have any holes in my collection. I don’t think this list is going to do it. Elvis, Dylan and Beatles? Spare me.
