No fortune in cookie = bad luck?

I got one that said “You’re Ugly and have Bad Breath. That’s why nobody likes you”.

Pretty accurate. So I didn’t bother leaving a tip. They already don’t like me.

I once got one that had two fortunes in it. Does that mean good luck?

A friend of mine always says those should be called “platitude cookies”.

This is especially funny, since as carrps said, fortune cookies aren’t Chinese. In any sense. Despite a Chinese noodle factory owner claiming he invented it: Fortune cookie - Wikipedia.

The flavor and texture are Japanese in origin. Based on sweet senbei, which are usually made with wheat flour and baked, versus the rice flour frying usually used for the savory type. Senbei - Wikipedia

I’ve never received fortune cookies, except from Chinese-American takeout like Panda Express as I’ve mentioned, but we used to get a bucket of assorted sweet senbei at Christmas. And the taste of the flat, round senbei was identical to a fortune cookie!

Bonus trivia. A traditional Chinese meal doesn’t end with any type of dessert. At most you would get typically get is an orange. There are Chinese pastries, some of which you can choose off a dim sum cart, but it’s usually never served after a full course meal.

Hopefully Chinaguy will hop in to confirm or refute.
