No Google ads for subscribing members?

Does anyone know the reason for this? Is it a matter of tracking the source of the ad, or is it just to prevent a website from putting them in popups?

AFAIK the issue is browser compatibility. There are theortically some browsers that don’t correctly handle the javascript window.open() command.

TIP: With Internet Explorer (most likely all the others), holding Shift while clicking on a link opens it in a new browser window (as does right click, Open in New Window).

On the Mozilla I’m using at the moment, shift-clicking on a link does exactly nothing. It doesn’t follow the link at all, in any window. There is, however, an “Open link in new window” option on right-click.

Although I am too addicted to SDMB to not re-up, the attitude of management IS disheartening. They obviously have NO experience with online services, and it shows. We pay money already, there is absolutely NO reason why we should be subjected to ads as well. Ads should be for the non-paying newbs and lurkers, not for those who ACTIVELY SUPPORT the SDMB with their wallets already.

I really would like to hear from someone in upper management at the CR (a personal post, not filtered down through SDMB staff) explaining why they think this is a good decision. Of course, I’m not holding my breath…I’m just really steamed right now.

Oh, for God’s sake. What the hell is SOOOOOOOO annoying about a thin line of really unobtrusive ads placed at the bottom of the screen where, 99% of the time you won’t even SEEEE them? Chill, like majorly. :rolleyes:
