Remember Box Tops for Education? Those little pink/red squares on certain box tops or soup cans that you could cut out & give to your local school & when they turned them in they got a whopping (as I recall) 10¢ per label. They’ve upgraded to the 21st century; they’re switching over to an app.
Here’s the thing, BTfE, I didn’t buy products specifically for that. I bought products that I liked & if they had a BTfE logo I would cut it out & throw it into a small baggie when I was was done with the box/can. When I had a sufficient amount, I’d take them to the school of my choice & dump them into their larger BTfE collection container.
Some weeks I’d get something at the grocery store that had BTfE & some weeks I didn’t but when I turned them into the school, I was anonymous. Now your new-fangled-app-just-because-you-can-create-an-app-&-glean-data-from-us requires a name, zip code, & birthdate. Presumably your able to pull our phone number from the app as well. Further the app requires us to scan our grocery receipt so that you can see everything we purchased. A marketer’s wet dream!
So BTfE company, please realize that if I gave my local school even $5/year, that would be more than they’re currently getting from me via your label donations so no, I’m not going to sell out for such a minuscule reward; especially when what you’re donating you’re probably deducting it from your taxes anyway.
- Any grocery store (whether home or away) I’ve been in where they require you to have a card/phone # to get the discount I enter a local area code & Jenny’s phone #. Is there anywhere she doesn’t shop?
I don’t have any store cards with my demographic data. Alright, time to dox myself - I’m really John Doe & live at 123 Main St. The grocery store gets info on a customer, just they can’t tie that back to me.
