Perhaps this belongs in IMHO, but I’ll leave that to the mods.
Breaking news about the military involved in the prison torture/abuse accusations. They are not to be allowed immunity from war crimes prosecution.
So what’s the debate? Well, will this added pressure cause the soldiers to roll over on their supervisors and create a ripple effect going back to Rumsfeld or higher? Will they take the fall for their superiors?
Will the world’s low opinion of the Bush administration cause the prosecuting body to be more aggressive in pursuit of justice?
Gee, wouldn’t it be nice if only there was some kind of … international criminal court… or some such, of course… that was set up just for cases like this… Hey, you know what? It could even be used for terrorists?
Gee, it’d be really neat if only someone could possibly come up with something like that. Maybe even if Bush supported it!
Saying that they won’t be protected from war crimes trials doesn’t mean much when there isn’t anyone you recognize who will run war crimes trials, now does it?
Now, since Bush specifically went out of his way to not only not recognize, but UNRECOGNIZE, a system set up by the UN for just cases like this, that makes him what I like to call an ASSHAT.
