I’m back and have showered all the dirt off (we did major cleaning, including removing yucky leaves from the stairwell that leads to the secret basement door). Amazing what two people can accomplish in just over an hour.
I’m thinking Loune was kidding with his suggestion. Either that, or he was being a lazy college student, which is one of those things we’re here to prevent. Get moving on our retirement income, young man!!!
Lessee…Hi Bumba! Nice to see you drop by. Feeling any more chipper?
Glad you’re getting back to normal, FCM. Hope the boat sells. (I’ll cross all my fingers once I finish typing.)
Sorry your day went sucky, Taters. (Here’s some chocolate…does that help?)
Hope the mucking about went OK, Drae (oooooh, a rhyme!).
So, taxi, will your replacement be inheriting your cold as well??? Just askin’.
Thanks for that enlightening addition to my vocabulary rifty . So, how do I impress someone with my newly gained info?
My first real, non-babysitting job was as a sports stringer for a little weekly paper. It was the county version, so I covered the teams from a rural high schools. You have to understand that there are two sports I know anything substantial about. One of them is Doperball.
So, I got to be chummy with 1) the football coach (my level of sophistication is that I know about downs. I know that you can get extra points by either kicking the ball or running across the line, and that teams sometimes go for field goals instead of trying for another first down or a touchdown. Well, I may know a little bit more than that, but not enough to discuss either team’s strategy.); 2) the very cute basketball coach (again, I know the basics, but nothing intricate), 3) and the wrestling coach (well, I already knew him, cuz he was also the football coach). Can’t remember who coached cross-country, but I at least know stuff about that, courtesy of my brother. I also got to cover a high-school hockey tournament at one point. Can’t remember who gave me a crash course in high-school hockey. Might have been my editor. All I remember about the pay is that I got paid by the inch. Maybe 25 cents/inch? I did this job for about 4 months as a freshman in college, '76-'77 academic year. Then I had a term with way too many classes and decided to go back to babysitting, since I had plenty of study time with that gig. It’s just dawning on me that this was just about thirty years ago. How is that possible? I am NOT old!!!
Oh, and on preview, I see Ashes checked in. ::Waves animatedly:: What? No first job anecdote? Sorry, you gotta come back and fill us in. Oh, and did you hear this mysterious boom this morning? Just read about it on Metafilter. You and scout are in that general neighborhood right?
