Yeah, that’s not very nice.
I have returned, bearing kitchen scales, a jar of dulce de leche, and a can of chipotles in adobo. It’s wet snow outside. I think I will clean the kitchen and make lots of tea. Later I will walk some (well, actually most of) the apricot pastry to work. The kitchen gadgets store was cool, but I nobly resisted buying a tortillas press, little tiny loaf pans, and a pot specifically for making popcorn. You should all be proud of me.
Oh, I think we kool kids can jog your memory from time to time. Don’t worry, though. We’ll be much kinder than Hal’s “friends.”
swampy, let me guess. Your cow-orker was being asked to work on her temper and propensity to fly off the handle.
lt, good ones. Try the veal.
Ah, fertilizer - the joy of living in a rural county. It’s been especially strong along Rt 5 north, and to go pretty much anywhere (except to Leonardtown) we have to take Rt 5 north. In fact, I have to head that way in about an hour, to take my van to the shop. I wonder if Monday night’s rain did anything to suppress the stink?
FCD is crashed and snoring on the couch - he came home right after lunch today. Poor guy is beat - last night he worked at home about 4 hours. While he was recuperating from surgery, one of his projects got moved ahead 2 weeks, so he’s hard against a deadline. He worked most of the weekend, too. So today, he finished something he had to get done, and he came home and crashed.
I got an email from my very first boyfriend. He became a grandfather for the second time. His daughter named the child after a character in Star Trek. I need to have a chat with my daughter about appropriate names for my future grandchildren.
And still waiting for a call back from the boat broker. It’s been almost 24 hours, fercryin’outloud!!! Oh well.
Still dealing with an annoying cough. Two or 3 people at work stopped to ask me if I was OK when I was in a coughing fit. I’ve got a semi-husky voice as a result - so, guys, does that get you all hot and bothered - a woman with a husky voice? I expect it loses some of its allure when accompanied by snuffling…
Well, it was more like being asked to work on her actual job which wasn’t getting done. She does get a tad defensive when confronted. Screaming “I Quit!” and walking out was a tad over the top though even for her. Thing is, I like her. She’s a nice peson. Dumb at her job, apparently, but a nice person. Everybody’s on pins and needles about how tomorrow will play out.
**swampy ** - that reminds of of **Maureen’s ** cow-orker tales. Did her bf think you’d be able to run interference or something?
Busy, busy, busy today. Just popping in for a quick hello.
Hello!
Also, I found out my mother is having surgery on 16 May. Actually, she’s having two procedures and one is way more serious than the other. In fact, until they actually “go in” we won’t know how serious the second procedure may become.
It’s all pretty oogie, so I won’t go in to detail, but the surgery MUST be done. She’s worried sick, so I’m trying to keep her calm. Frankly, I’m glad they’re moving fast on this, it gives her less time to fret. In the meantime, she must use Premerin in a creme form to toughen/thicken up her skin in the area where they’re going to be mucking about. If they were to do the more serious procedure now, she’d bleed out. Not good, not good AT ALL.
Her pre-op brief is scheduled for the 8th of May. I’ve told her that my sister and BIL will have to go with her to that, because I’ll be winging my way to Ronald Reagen Airport at that time.
I’m sure things will be fine and I’m strangely calm, cool, and collected about the whole thing. I guess this is good, because my mother can be a bit of a drama queen.
Back to my lovely databases and spreadsheets for now.
**Taters ** - I’ll send positive vibes your mom’s way
As long as she doesn’t have an adam’s apple to go with it, yeah.
(Actually, I keep my hot-and-botheredness to home these days, but I couldn’t resist the smart-@ssed remark.)
What’s the kid’s name, Data? I am waiting with baited breath (oops, make that bated).
I confess myself intrigued by the pending operations for your mother, Taters–don’t share if you’re not comfortable. I hope your mother does well.
I fell asleep this afternoon, putting paid to all my plans at organization and cleaning. Oy. At least I worked out and took some prints to the framing shop (at last!) and finally got to the library. Now, if only I had shopped for some food for dinner. Gah.
Count me in with the well-wishers, Taters . We’re all trying to get our rhythms together and do a sort of care bear stare of well wishes for ya.
Okay, maybe no care bear stare. But the intention is still noble, dammit.
Thanks all for the well wishes.
Okay, I’ll try to explain the procedures. The second one is pretty oogie, or at least what is causing her to have the second procedure is pretty oogie.
The first procedure is pretty simple, really. They’re going to surgically implant this little mesh hammock thingy that will hold up/cradle her urethra. Apparently, it was damaged at some point and when she coughs she leaks, a little. This would normally be a day surgery.
The second procedure involves implanting mesh as well. She has a large bulge or sack that has somehow come from her rectal wall and is hanging in her vaginal canal. It is literally hanging right near the opening of her canal. At any rate, because she had her uterus removed many, many years ago, and, because she has not taken any estrogen for some time, the skin surrounding this “sac” is very, very thin. Cutting it open could cause her to bleed out. This is the reason she is having to insert the premerin in her canal.
The other problem is, that they don’t know what is causing this protuberance and where, exactly, it is from. They’re not sure if it orignates in her upper or lower bowel. Because of the very probable complications, she is required to stay overnight, at the very least. I’m sure she’ll be fine, and, as I stated in my earlier post, I’m glad they’re doing it fairly soon.
She is very understandably worried because when they removed her uterus, she nearly died. Something went horribly, horribly wrong. She never did really find out what they did wrong. It happened in the mid to late 70s, when she was on public assistance and they didn’t treat those types of patients very well or with much respect. She ended up staying in the hospital for quite some time because of it. I was about 11 or 12 at the time.
See, I told you all it was pretty ucky.
Anyway, back to work. Is it 1630 yet? Yeesh!
Spock: “The child was named Leonard James Ak’aar?”
Kirk: “Yes, Spock, what do you think?”
Spock: “I think the both of you will be insufferably pleased with yourselves for at least a month.”
Kirk and McCoy: grin
-TOS, “Friday’s Child”
Not as disturbing as Data, but from the same crew - #1, in fact. (No, she didn’t call the kid #1) William Ryker Lastname.
And <insert drumroll here> the buyers accepted our counteroffer. So this weekend, we have to go down and un-winterize the boat and remove the last of our personal stuff. They’re going to do sea trials and a survey the next weekend (while we’re in FL) Assuming they don’t find anything unnerving, we’ll close by May 3. And, oddly, I’m feeling very sad about this. It’s the smart thing to do for a lot of reasons, but this is the best boat we’ve ever had, and it’ll be hard to let it go. Harder still because the buyers live in the next town south of us, so we may well see the boat when we go out. That will be difficult. I was hoping the guy from South Carolina would buy it.
On the other hand, if they get tired of it in 4 or 5 years, we might be able to buy it back, so who knows…??
I thought I’d be more excited and less melancholy. Oh well.
Prayers and good thoughts headed out, Taters.
Did I tell you that Driving Husband wants to name his first son Boron Stormhammer? He thinks it’s cool. He says it’s because no one ever has cool middle names, and that ‘Stormhammer’ is an awesome middle name. I think he’s delusional, and so does his girlfriend.
I worked with a guy who wanted to name his firstborn Thor. Lucky for the kid, there wasn’t one - he and his wife adopted two boys who were already a bit older and had names.
Good wishes to your mom, Taters! Here’s hoping her doctors are lots better now than that other time. Sounds like they’d almost have to be.
The original saying was: You can’t scare me, I have children, I just changed it up a little 'cause, well, we got 5 grandkiddies now.
Anyway, The implication being not that the children themselves are scarey, but some of the stuff they get up to will like to stop your heart.
Hope everything goes well for your mom Taters.
My brother swears that when he was working in a hospital in Atlanta he met a couple of kids named Lemonjello and Orangejello. Pronounced lay-MON-ja-low and Oh-RON-ja-low. I think he was having me on though.
Prayer’s and good thoughts headed to Tatersmom. My mom had the mesh thingie done with no problem, so at least I can say that one should go well. She’s also glad she did it cause it caused the leakage problem to stop.
Speaking of my mom, we should all have her social life. She’s going shopping in Etlanner for a couple of days tomorrow. Seems she and a couple of her lady friends have decided they need to head up to the Mall of Georgia for two days. That’s a day shopping, spend the night, another day shopping, spend the night and come home. Tonight she’s attending a fish fry. In two weeks she’s going with a senior group to Cherokee, N.C. She’s also looking at going on another cruise in August. She’s got garden shows, teas, luncheons, on and on and on to attend this next month. My mom, the social butterfly. Know what? Good for her! After she spent ten years looking after dad, she deserves it. Still, my own dear mother has a better social life than me. SOB
YAY on the boat selling FCM. I got my fingers crossed (and man is it hard to type!) that the deal goes through.
Rosie I think da boyfriend thought that I’d tell him what was going on. HAH! Oh, late this afternoon, I accompanied our HR manager into Miss I Quit’s office to box up all her personal items. I was the witness. One of her personal items is a little pillow that has “Little Miss Drama Queen” embroidered on it. Ain’t that a hoot!
That’s funny Swampy! The pillow thing, I mean. How very appropriate.
Yeah, on the mesh thingy; the urethra thing isn’t a big deal; it’s other procedure that may complicate things. Hopefully, it’ll all work out and it won’t be a big problem.
She’s planning on taking four to six weeks for recovery, so she should be good rested when she returns to work.
Congrats **FCM, ** on the boat (almost) sale. Look on the bright side, you won’t have to worry about maintenance and moorage fees and all that anymore.
Whew! I’m finally home. I’m glad, it’s been a long week again. I’m getting a little burned out, I guess. I can’t wait until my vacation in August when I’ll (hopefully) get to recharge my batteries.
Oh! I was going to add that I hadn’t seen chaoticbear posting in here this week. I hope he isn’t offended by what was said in the manpri thread. I’m sorry, I had to tell him that was a definite no-no and I wasn’t the only one.
I’m feeling kind of icky. I think I’m just tired. I hope I’m just tired.
I need to figure out what to make for chop-chop. I have some leftovers. I think the leftovers are going to be dinner.
my mom was such a good cook, she could make leftovers from scratch!
