…though I could see how someone might be profoundly affected if they watched this while under the influence of various recreational drugs:

Blockhead - The Music Scene, with animation by Anthony Francisco Schepperd

As my brother noted, the animation is audaciously creative; “surreal” doesn’t begin to describe it.

Animation style reminds me a bit of Heavy Metal.

That’s astonishing.

As someone who indulged in psychedelics in the past, I must say that a lot of the imagery in that is probably the most representative of the things I have “seen” when tripping over any other attempt to portray it. In particular the repeating motifs that appear but morph into something else immediately, over and over again.

The only time it doesn’t really resemble my experiences is when there is more than one viewpoint of the same thing (e.g. the seated orange guy being built from an extruding cable), and the slower non-morphing stuff at the beginning and the end.

But it does definitely capture the spirit of the experience. For that aspect, and as a standalone piece of animation, wow.

The animation was incredible was to look at and I to agree that it was reminiscent of Heavy Metal. I haven’t see that movie in ages, I think I might have to search it out again soon!

As far as “drug-feel” of the video, I’ve never taken a psychedelic so I cannot attest to the “accuracy” of the video but I really enjoyed the music. I think I’ve found a new band to follow from this post. I’ve now listened to a few more of their tracks and I really like what I hear! You find the coolest stuff from the Straight Dope!
