Fungi Perfecti has black and true morel spawn in their 2014 catalog. I cannot think of a more fascinating company. Our morels have not appeared for several years, and I am thinking of getting some. Morels sauteed with leeks, a nice red, and broiled asparagus. Yum.

Yes they do. Old apple tree orchards are a good place to look for them. They like the rotting roots of the old trees.
I had a couple old apple trees in my yard that I cut down. A year or two later I had a flush of morels in the early spring around the old stumps for a radius of about 20 feet. They reappeared for 3 or so years and are now done because all the roots have rotted away, the food source is gone.
This is probably the problem that solost has and the morels may not come back.
