No, no, please no: Tebow

You just broke my unintentional irony meter.

Hmmmm… I think I spot a contradiction here…

Y’all do get the difference between holding obnoxious beliefs and preaching obnoxious beliefs, right? The former is a reality of life - some people are dumb. The latter is destructive and worthy of scorn.

Sure, I’ll buy that. What obnoxious beliefs has Tebow been preaching?

On this point we clearly will have to agree to disagree, no need to rehash.

Yet you are free to say Tebow is a bad person for his beliefs?

Your “preaching” distinction is laughable. You are preaching with this very thread.

Also, please note that you are not the ultimate arbiter of what is and is not an obnoxious belief. The overwhelming majority of the country has some level of religious belief. Quite a few people find militant atheism to be obnoxious–including me, and I am an atheist.

Tebow is not a bad person for his beliefs. An idiot, but not a bad person. (Ok maybe kind of bad because his beliefs lead him to make destructive personal decisions, say in the ballot box; but hey it’s a free country.)

Tebow is a bad person for telling me, without me asking, that I am a bad person. That makes him a fair target for a reaction from me.

I never said I was arbiter of anything. We each have our beliefs, and I obviously think mine are right. But if you just STFU and keep your beliefs to yourself, as I do, we’ll get along just fine. Get in my face with them, and I may post an annoyed thread about you.

Again with the name calling? The guy has opinions that differ from yours. That does not make him a bad person or an idiot. Nor is voting for a different candidate demonstrably self-destructive.

How exactly has he done that? I’ll be needing a cite to a direct quote from him.

So hypocrisy doesn’t concern you in the least. He should STFU while you spout off about whatever topics you like? That seems somewhat less than fair.

And I really must object to the accusation of ‘militant atheism’. I never have, and never will, criticize someone their belief unless they try to criticize mine. You know, I know, and everyone else knows what it means when I guy stands on the street with a sign reading “John 3:16”. It means “you’re going to hell if you’re not a believer.”

Painting it in eyeblack and posing for a magazine cover means the same thing.

He started it.

I’d agree with you if that was what the verse said, but it isn’t. I would be perfectly happy if I never saw another idiot broadcasting his beliefs at a sporting event - “I’d like to thank god for helping me catch that touchdown instead of helping a scientist curie cancer” - but Tebow didn’t say anyone was going to hell anymore than he said anyone who has an abortion is evil. This sounds like projection.

I concur that it sounds like projection.

On a lighter note, I present tebowing: praying on one knee when no one else is.

I don’t know that, mainly because that verse says nothing of the kind.

Cite?

While I’m rather indifferent on Tebow’s religious views, maybe he should pray for God to give him an actual NFL throwing motion instead of that crapfest he calls passing.

Guys have been taking a knee and praying in the NFL since Herb Lusk in 1977.

God I hate the media.

I have no idea what John 3:16 means, but I do know what Austin 3:16 says

“I just killed your thread.”

To be fair, I guess that hockey fans probably feel the same way about Sidney Crosby that I do about Tebow. (However, Crosby’s got the numbers to back it up!) Well, unless they’re Penguins fans.

As long as Tebow doesn’t start mentioning Christian “side hugs”, I’m cool with him.

2-10, 30 yards, two sacks. Passer rating of 39.6.

Of course, Detroit is only up by 7, so he’ll probably bring the Broncos back again.
