A simple message to everyone involved - fuck you, you bunch of fucking cunts. Yes, there may have reason for a vigil and a peaceful protest on behalf of the man shot by the police, even though it appears he shot first. But looting, burning cars, buses, businesses, and people’s fucking homes?
It seems to be spreading too. There’s reports of rioting in Birmingham city centre, and I’ve heard from people near me in Nottingham that pubs have been warned to lock their doors as there’s something happening. No confirmation of anything major here though.
It appears the Government is in emergency session, as normally happens when there’s a fucking terrorist threat. I have a nasty feeling that the police aren’t going to be on the defensive much longer, and there’ll be blood spilled. That will be a hideous thing to see, but if people carry on rioting there’s little other option.
Just saw a report on it on BBC America. They said a building where 26 people lived in flats above a store was burned beyond repair and is on the brink of collapse. The people inside got out okay, but everything they owned is gone. How do you rebuild your life after that?
Some people just look for an excuse to riot and tear shit up. I’m good with that. I am also good in those circumstances with letting cops finding an excuse to beat the shit out of, tear gas, and shoot those same people.
Can’t behave civily? Don’t expect to be treat that way then.
I support your goal, but not your method. It shouldn’t be a matter of “finding an excuse” to shoot these people. If you’re going to start shooting arsonists and looters, it should be done openly.
Those aren’t the same thing. Just coming out and saying “We will shoot arsonists on sight” is more respectable than giving the cops permission to shoot people and then cover it up.
Not going to happen. These riots appear to be cropping up in a matter of minutes and they are over equally quickly. The mobile phone makes it easy to throw some rocks, steal a TV and disappear and set up another mob for later.
I sort of skipped over the “riots in London” headline when I saw it earlier; assumed it was just in Brixton or something. I knew something was up when my brother called to tell me he and my sister-in-law and nieces were alright.
1st someone was shot, which lighted a fire and caused some rioting. Now people are getting free flatscreen tv’s. Sounds like the LAriots a bit. Nice to see someone else’s peoples doing that kind of stuff.
Rioters aren’t known for the precision of their target discrimination. And even when the mob at the beginning has a good reason to be angry, once the violence starts the “burn and loot everything in reach” types will soon come out of the woodwork.
The highest number of unemployed youth ever recorded, local authority youth budgets cut by 75% in most places, university education effectively privatised… if you want kids to invest in society then…
Violence has been done to this generation time and again. What we now see is a reaction to that violence. You reap what you sow, Mr Cameron.
This is worth a look; the (now) Deputy Prime Minister (before the election) anticipating riots if the Tories won that election last year and put their plans in place:
I figure unless the UK govt wants to invest in concentration camps, they are just going to go for minimal arrests and chalk it up to a bunch of kids venting steam and such, but I am not so sure thats the right avenue to go down.
Which sucks, otherwise the only option to unleash the cossacks and sabers on horseback is applicable when faced with what is effectively a revolt. This sorta reminds me of that Michael Caine movie, and rioting for amusement.
Cliff Fenton: What you did doesn’t make sense.
Herman Bell: It does not have to! It just has to get noticed. They have to learn–oppressing people costs!
