“I’d smash you if you took your uniform off”.: sixteen weeks inside.
Stealing three quids worth of bottled water? Six months in jail, and for a student so it’ll damage his prospects in the long term as it will interrupt his studies.
The rioters are the only decent people in this situation. The judges and the polices are a gang of cunts lusting after a bit of blood. That’s the only reason they get into that game anyway.
Don’t do the crime, don’t do the time. Punishing people for being complete idiots and breaking the law doesn’t seem repressive to me - it’s not like the police were rousting people out of their beds and beating them, were they? People were out looking for trouble, and they found it.
Jail all the little bastards and send a message that the rest of we civilized, tax-paying, property-owning adults have had e-fucking-nough of this shit.
I don’t think any formal charges have been laid in Vancouver yet, which is a shame.
Heh - I was thinking along the same lines when I read the OP. I think there’s a dividing line for how you think about rioters - once you own stuff that you paid for yourself and you don’t want to see destroyed by some punk-ass kid, you stop looking at rioters as freedom fighters and start seeing them as somebody who is going to cost you money and aggravation.
I could see making the argument that the punishment is too harsh, but could you explain why you think the rioters are “the only decent people” in the situation? Do you think it is wrong to destroy other people’s property or to assault other people? If so, how are they being decent?
Agreed. These are not peaceful demonstrators trying to bring attention to what they see as inherent injustice. They are thugs and criminals and should be dealt with accordingly.
You are falsely attempting to present all the rioters as folks who were out for a lark, caused no significant harm, and who are receiving disprortionate sentences for their crimes. I have no doubt that some people may indeed get harsh sentences for what in other times might be considered fairly petty offenses, and, assuming there is an appeals process, those sentences may be reduced on review. Your premise, however, is unlikely to fly for those of us who have seen photos and videos of the violence. How about the persons who torched vehicles and buildings, including residences? Are they ‘decent’ people as well, in your view? How about the persons who caused at least five deaths during the riots?
If the police were lusting after blood, they certainly didn’t seem to work very hard at it. In fact, my understanding was that the Met was resisting being obligated to use force, such as water cannons, that they felt would be counterproductive or inappropriate for the situation.
Oh, and I was also going to say, I thought this thread was going to be about some of the measures Prime Minister Cameron wants to implement that would censor social media Websites. citecite
On what level is looting and rioting for no reason acceptable. It wasn’t about the shooting. None of these people could name the person who got shot, I guarantee.
