No period for 2 months - on the Pill - any reason for concern?

I haven’t had a period since August, but I’m not pregnant.

(I’m on the Pill - Synphasic - but I’ve decided to go off it for a variety of reasons.)

My doctor says not to worry, that I should consider myself lucky to not get my period, but I worry that it’s not natural for my body to not be “shedding”.

Any ideas what’s going on and is this all right?

Thank you,
Stainz

Considering that 1) your doctor said not to worry, and 2) some BC, like Depo-provera, can cause a complete absence of mestruation and 3) the Pill can be taken in such a way as to “eradicate” the period (a method suggested to me by some gynecologists, I would say, listen to your doctor, and don’t worry.

So wait… Are you on the pill or not? You were on the pill, or you just got off the pill? When did you get off of it? Did you quit at the end of the cycle or in the middle. Did you have a period when you quit, but none sense? Or did you get off in August at the end of a cycle and you haven’t menstruated at all since the month prior?

Also, have you been stressed out lately or maybe excersising more lately? Are you overweight? Have you had regular periods up until now? How long were you on the pill before you got off?

I like that answer!

I’m hoping to start trying for a baby in about 6 months, and I guess I’m a little worried that my body is doing something unnatural …

Oops - sorry Bear_Nenno, my reply was to TellMeI’mNotCrazy

I’ve been on the pill for most of the past 15 years. I’ve taken different brands but Synphasic has been the one I’ve used for the past 5.

I stopped taking it at the end of my last package - which was a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t get a period at the beginning of September like I should have, or at the beginning of October like I should have.

I’m always stressed, I’ve always been a little overweight, and I’m usually a little tired.

About 3 years ago on this brand of pill, I experienced the “missing” period but if I remember correctly, it was only every other month, so one month I would have my period, the next month I wouldn’t. I switched brands, but the other kind gave me much worse cramps, so I switched back to Synphasic.

My guess would be that it is just your body adjusting to discontinuing the pill.

However, it could be Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Symtoms include irregular periods, being overweight -particularly through the hip/butt/thighs, acne, dark patches of skin - particularly near the breasts or chin, and hirutism. It is unusual to have all the symptoms. I was recently diagnosed with it. There are several different types - mine is caused by insulin resistance. Now I am taking a medication so I am losing weight and my periods are more regular. (I had the opposite problem - my period wouldn’t go away for 6 months, but it is just as common to not get it at all.)

Hi Thinks … nope, that doesn’t fit me, but good luck - I’m glad you’ve been diagnosed and you’re getting treated!

If it’s any consolation, I’m doing about the same thing.

After being on the pill for 18 years (my God, has it been THAT long?!?) I went off of it at the beginning of the summer mainly because I was curious what being off the pill would feel like. I had regular periods for 3 months, but now they’ve just… stopped. Think it’s been about 7 or 8 weeks now since my last one.

I even did a home pregnancy test to see if I was pregnant despite being pretty sure I wasn’t. We’ve been VERY careful with condoms, and I just can’t believe I could be pregnant and not feel different. Maybe I’m wrong about that, but somehing tells me that I’d at least feel a little odd or different if I were 2 months pregnant.

Anyway, not pregnant, and still no period. I’m gonna sit back and enjoy it!
