No sex please, I’m a vegan

Well, I guess the breastfeeding issue would depend on whether the vegan mother felt exploited by breastfeeding her baby.

And I once overheard the vet I worked for explaining to a vegan that, no, she couldn’t feed her cat a strictly vegan diet. I don’t know if she got rid of the cat or not.

There is no need to have a carnivorous pet.

The big question is, will vegan dogs sniff the butts of non-vegan dogs? I look forward to the results of randomized controlled trials.

What will vegans do when they discover they’re made out of meat?

no more nail-biting, for one thing.

Plus, probably won’t have it for long.

My single anecdote involves a vegan friend of mine (coincidentally also my single vegan friend, himself not single but married to a former ethnic carnivore whose conversion to vegetarianism I suspect resulted from no small measure of lecturing on his part, and whose leap into the veganistic faith, last I heard, was still sullied by infrequent, shame-laden dairy transgressions, a fact which I’m sure is a pregnant source of marital tension, but I digress) “adopted” an apparent stray cat who’d begun hanging around their doorstep and began feeding it vegan cat food.

I’m still undecided whether this was an act of kindness or cruelty. The cat did seem happy enough— scrawny by house-pet standards, but somewhere on the safe side of starvation. I couldn’t help but hope it roamed the neighborhood without my friend’s knowledge, finding additional sustenance from his nonvegan neighbors (assuming there were any, this being the sort of West Coast enclave that features more vividly than Hell in cattlemen’s nightmares).

His rationale, which I did not find fully convincing, was that “regular” cat food also comprised a lot of ingredients not found in a feral cat’s diet, so why not feed them a cruelty-free regimen of vegetables and grains?

I’m sure the cat was fine and in that case I don’t see a problem with supplying vegan food. Its not as though cats are dependent on humans for food - don’t forget they are excellent hunters and will supplement the vegan foods with their natural prey.

Or perhaps with vegans, if the situation becomes dire enough…

Back in the days when my son had a dog and I had a cat, he’d often mention that when people die alone, locked in with their animals, dogs will take, on average, three days longer before starting to eat.

Now we both have dogs and cats and he doesn’t mention it any more. I’m assuming it’s mostly BS, but he was dating a coroner’s tech at the time.

Oh, and he wasn’t concerned or trying to frighten me. He was just taking the opportunity to yank my chain. Do you think vegans would be worried about the possiblity?

Not if they never get outside.

Heh.

Cats are carnivorous, not omnivorous. they absolutely cannot thrive on a vegan diet, and by feeding it to the cat they are shortening it’s life.

In general, vets say no… even those who were/are vegans

And even those who do advocate it indicate that it’s not going to work in all cases

And of course nothing at all will stop your cat from devouring bugs, mice and any other prey species it finds in it’s domain.

For a few years I dated a person who would not have sex with meat eaters.

Essentially she is a vegan fanatic. Just think religous fanatic, and swap in vegan.

It was a bit annoying in general, but the only time it was actually dangerous was when she was driving my suv and trailer on a highway when we were passed by a vehicle with a dead deer tied to the roof. She covered her eyes with both hands and started screaming, leaving me to reach over and steer.
