I live in the Baltimore area. Today, while driving home, I came upon a mile to mile and a half stretch of road where EVERY house had a sign in the front yard reading “No Shelter”. The signs were all the same size, about 4 inches by 18 inches. They looked like they were plywood, most of them were painted white. The letters were all stenciled on, and either black, green, red, and blue. All were obviously made by the same person or people.
Does anyone have any idea why this was done or what it means? It’s not the most affluent area, but I’ve never seen any homeless people or wanderers around. The signs weren’t there Sunday, the last time I went that way. We did have a fairly major snowstorm today, I’m not sure if they’re related to that.
Is there a legal requirement to post a sign like that if you don’t want people to spend the night in your barn or shed during a storm? Would a sign like that give you any more rights as a property owner? Or is this just another case like the guy in my area with the 20 foot long “Get US out of the UN” sign. (don’t ask)
It was a rural area, and the signs started on a side road and continued up the main road. The area was Clayton Road and MD Route 7, in Harford County, Maryland, if anyone knows the area.
Puzzled,
