Al Yeganeh, made (in)famous as the “Soup Nazi” from Seinfeld, will soon offer a line of prepackaged soups for retail in grocery stores. Soon even non-New Yorkers will be able to see for themselves whether or not his soups are all they’re cracked up to be.
Has anyone here tried them before (the real deal- not the packaged stuff)? I’ve htought about it while in New York and even passed by once or twice, but the place was always crowded. Any favourites? Any secret recipes online?
I’ve had the crab bisque. It was quit good, and supposedly this was after he’d “gone downhill”.
I made the recipe at home (http://www.topsecretrecipes.com/recipes.htm). My imitation Nazi soup was about the same as his, but took all day to make and cost a small fortune.
he’s real? is he really that grouchy in real life?
Here’s the correct link to the crab bisque recipe:

Yeah, he’s real, and he is a grouch.
I went once back when I lived in NYC. I even got snapped at for not stepping to the left quickly enough, though it was more “testy” than “seriously angry” ala Seinfeld.
Good bisque, but horribly overpriced for what you get.
I worked near Columbus Circle in the mid-nineties and used to go there occasionally. Horribly overpriced, yes, but the bisques were fantastic.
I made the bisque this weekend, using the linked recipe. I thought it was extraordinarily ordinary. Tossing in some fresh herbs in each bowl helped a lot.
