The last class update came out yesterday for the long neglected Engineer. I gave it a go last night. I quickly gave up playing engie, since all the servers are full of them, but playing as a soldier I was able to make some observations.
It’s much more plausible to play an offensive engie. Take the Frontier Justice and the Gunslinger. Drop mini-sentries to help cover your advance, and get your crits when the guns are easily destroyed. The fact that you can pick up and move fully constructed teles, dispensers, and regular sentries helps too.
The Wrangler is just sinister. Engies can do their own spy checking now, and a sentry can have unlimited range. Engies can also now rocket jump!!
I have mixed feelings about being able to pick up and move sentry guns. It seems too powerful.
Got the first milestone last night, looking forward to get the rest once the hype dies down. Like with every class update, the servers are all flooded with just one particular class now and it’s impossible to get any achievements done (legitimately), especially when servers have class caps. Right now I’m preferring servers with class caps, it’s nice to play a game with just 4 engies max per team instead of team engie vs. team engie.
I can’t wait to get the other two weapons. The new shotty seems decent. I’m really enjoying the fact that we can move around buildings, now. Plus, I think it’s balanced in that running with the equipment makes the engie move slower, it takes some time to set the equipment up, and of course it has to all be build and upgraded without being destroyed before you can even think about moving it around.
Ah, like I said I gave up last night trying to play as an engie. I didn’t notice how vulnerable you are when you move them. I assumed all the engies I blew up with tool kits were just trying to build
I only really played on turbine last night, and as one of the 2 non-engies on my team it was really like a wolf amongst lambs. In a half hour I racked up 50 destructions, 45 kills and only like 10 deaths.
