TF2: meet the spy!

This is the best one yet. I love all of their “meet the blank” videos, but they truly outdid themselves this time.

I loved all these videos, and excitedly pointed them out to my friend who busted my bubble by saying these videos were all a year old…

But yeah- I’m a fan of a Spy/Soldier/DemoMan and Sniper videos all of those are GREAT!

Actually this one just came out a few days ago. They’ve been releasing them periodically since the game came out.

Scout: What are you, the president of his fan club?
Spy: No. That would be your mother…
[Spy throws a manila folder on the table and “candid” photos of a woman romantically involved with a spy slide out]

“Now listen to me unless you want pornography starring your mother to be the second worst thing to happen to you today!”

pure win.

I want the pyro to be the Scout’s mother.

The Scout’s mother appears to be the pinup girl in the bases. Doesn’t necessarily rule that out too, though.

That would explain the flowery purse in the pyro’s cubbyhole.

What prompted you to say this? Is there some sort of TF2 inside joke that I’m missing out on?

It’s something of an in-joke in the TF2 community that the Pyro’s a woman. No actual official stuff on it either way.

Ugh, the new weapon drop mechanism is terrible. Now I’m seeing weekend people get weapons I haven’t even unlocked yet just by being in the game and since achievements aren’t related to earning weapons anymore I’ll never get the new sniper items I’ve been looking forward to. I was excited until yesterday, now I think this new update is enough to make me stop playing the game for good.

Brilliant stuff. I wish I was better at the game, but it is still so incredibly fun, even though I suck. I need to try the new update…

I just spent a while watching all the films, and I’ve hurt myself laughing. Since they’re all right here in my browser… enjoy:
Engineer
Soldier
Demoman
Scout
Sniper
Heavy

Honestly, I’m much happier with the new drop system than the old one. It still seems to be based on the order in which the unlocks would happen achievement-wise (for Medics, the Ubersaw is last), and you’re more likely to get weapon drops for the character class you’re playing, though not always.

The alternative, naturally, is to either have your teammates attempting stupid crap like using their secondary weapons out of turn (Heavy) or trying to kill people with their taunt (Heavy/Pyro). Or, as Valve has likely seen with their in-depth server tracking… people joining ACHIEVEMENT SERVER #61239 and pretending to have fun helping each other do the grinds or silly requirements for various achievements.

The new system makes getting the weapons you want more about playing naturally and well. You’re more likely to get a drop after a particularly well-done run, immediately after dying.

Actually, I just realized Valve themselves have justified this rather better than I have in their own blog post.

Basically, I was having less fun playing legitimately (but well - top of most servers as Medic) and being jealous of the folks who got their Ubersaws and Blutsaugers by jumping in achievement-only servers, which I just don’t have time for. I’ve played Medic since TF2 came out (~25 hours by the game’s count) and still only have about 23 out of the 30 achievements.

Now, with this system, I just want to play as much as I can - if not for the weapons that I have no chance of unlocking legitimately, then for the hats~
Oh, and since it hasn’t been mentioned in the thread yet:
Team Fortress 2 is free to play, this weekend only!
Steam is also a free install. Have fun!

I don’t get it. What’s new about the weapon drops and what’s changed about it? I’ve played some Team Fortress 2, but don’t really like it/have room for only one FPS in my life at a time.

Before the change, weapons were unlocked for each class based on the amount of achievements they earned. (10 achievements would unlock the first new weapon, 20 would unlock the second, 30 the third, etc.) This was supposed to reward players who were good at that class get even better items.
The problem was that people made farming servers where you just go, join as whatever class you wanted to unlock the weapons for, and just unlock all of the achievements there as opposed to playing the actual game and earning them along the way. It was a cheap, easy way of getting the new items.
The new update made it so unlocking achievements is no longer needed to get the new items. Instead, they are dropped randomly.

It annoys me to no end because I was really looking forward to earning the sniper upgrades (it’s my favorite/best class) and now I’m watching weekend noobs and weekend players randomly get the new items and I could sit there for hours picking off people left and right and get nothing. I got a scout achievement today and I never even play scout!

I’m not saying the former technique was perfect, the farming servers did negate any sense of “earning” the weapons if you just wanted to get them quickly. However, I’d rather have them unlocked by achievements then to be randomly given crap and wonder if I’ll ever get the stuff that I want.

edit: Okay, after reading Valve’s blog I can say that I understand why they’ve switched up the technique, but I’m still not happy with the change. Basically it means that I could snipe my ass off and be at the top of the list but the bottom-of-the-team player that plays longer than me gets a better chance at finding an item.

Are these unlocked weapons upgrades over the vanilla weapons, or are they just skin changes?

They’re different than the vanilla weapons in mechanics, but inferior in usefulness (except the medic unlocks).

No, not all are inferior, it just depends on the individual’s tastes.

They have different pros and cons from the original weapons. For example, the new pyro gun, the Backburner, does pure critical hits if you get the person from behind (which is great since a lot of people tend to try to run from a pyro, exposing their backs) and it used to come with a +75 health bonus (which has been taken away but I still use the gun regardless). The downside is that it doesn’t come with air blast like the original pyro gun.

The medic’s kritzkrieg gun (in my opinion, one of the most useless upgrades next to the pyro’s flare gun) replaces the original uber gun. Instead of getting 10 seconds of invincibility, you get 10 seconds of pure critical hits for whoever you choose to uber. Pretty useless IMO since both the medic and partner aren’t invincible so they can be taken out easily.

But there’s a balance to them all, they’re not all superior or inferior.

Interesting. Sounds like a balance nightmare, though.

Spy: And now he’s here to [CENSORED] us!

Man, I love this movie/clip so much!
